7.5x17 Evo wheels + "big" brakes - where do they interfere?

Hey,
I have a set of 7.5x17 Evo 2 wheels (P/N 170 401 17 02) laying around. I understand they won't fit most 320mm and up brakes. Where do they interfere? Is it the spokes (can be solved with a spacer within reasonable limits) or the "wheel itself" that will be the point of interference? At the moment I don't have any brake calipers at all on my car, so I can't try it out myself..

Hi mate :-)

These wheels has ET37 so the difference is only 3mm from the EVO II for the 036. I'm not sure they will interfere, but if so I guess the spokes would hit the caliper. Should be solved easily with a tiny spacer. This is probably the Ceginus wheels?

Yeah, that's right! :) I have them because they fit better on my car with the standard (non-500) wheel arches. I do have the option code for body modifications to fit wider wheels, so a spacer shouldn't be an issue. If I could fit them using a spacer, that would be great. I'll give it a try :)

That sounds fine. :-)

I'm sure I've seen those wheels on a 036 at some point, but I don't have any fitment information.

I had these 7.5x17 Evo wheels on my 500E when my I bought it, but the car did not have the larger 320mm front discs. It also had 15mm spacers on the front, and 20mm on the rear, but I'm afraid I can't tell you whether this was because of a clearance issue or not. I discarded the wheels and spacers for a "proper" set of 8.25x17 Evos, plus also some original 16" wheels as second option.

The 7.5x17 EVO wheels will not clear factory FRONT brakes larger than 294/295mm diameter.

The interference is between the spoke and caliper face. You need 15-20mm spacers to make the wheel clear the caliper. If you use a thick enough spacer, they will clear the 300, 320, and 334mm front calipers.

There are no clearance problems with rear calipers up to 300x22mm.

Dave, I don't believe you need more than about 10 mm spacers to fit 7.5 Evo's over 300+mm brakes. It's been years since I tried (on my old 16V with alloy Brembos) but as I recall, even a 5mm spacer would provide enough clearance. My memory could be off, but that's what I recall.

Glen, it will depend on the exact caliper you are trying to clear. I did not have spacers available to experiment with, but my notes from June 2012 read:

"Based on my measurements the 7.5" Evo wheels would likely need a 10mm spacer to clear 320mm calipers, a 15mm spacer to clear the 334mm Brembos, and possibly as much as 20mm to clear the 300mm calipers (either Ate or Brembo)."

I could have been off by a few mm for any of the above, so take the numbers with a grain of salt.
