Best wheels that take advantage of E500 fenders

Hello,

I have a stock E500 and want wheels that complement the widebody; I'm looking for a set of wheels with an offset that will put them flush with the fenders (or as close as possible), without relying on spacers. I can't seem to figure out the offset of the wheels I've been looking at, or how it compares to the stock 16's

I don't have much of a preference for wheel diameter, although I like the OZ AMG II's, the EVO II's, and the 18" AMG Monoblocks.
Anybody have a suggestion?

If you want the front and rear wheels to be flush with the front and rear fenders, you’ll need different width wheels for the front and rear. If you’re willing to go that route, the front wheels offset would be 17 and rear wheels offset would be around 20-22.

Stock is 16 x 8.0 ET34, which don't fill out the fenders much. In general you can fit up to 8.5 wide up front, and 9.5-10.0 in the rear with offsets between roughly ET25-ET30. You can fit wider wheels but beyond the numbers above, it gets tricky to maintain clearance without tires rubbing, so be careful.

The allowed offset will vary by width, the wider the wheel, the narrower the acceptable offset range. Low ET numbers push the wheel further outward, ET17-ET20 is about the absolute max offset (for the widths mentioned above) and will require careful tire size selection.

All of the wheels mentioned above are great choices. 17" and 18" are the sweet spot for diameter. Avoid the 17" 3pc OZ AMG's, they are priced to the moon and tend to crack by the lug bolt holes. The 18" 2-pc staggered OZ AMG's are awesome but pretty hard to find (and, also very expensive). Evo II's are still available new, reasonably priced, and are a classic look... but don't fill out the fenders as much since they are only 8.25" wide. 18" Monoblocks (must be from the 210, not 140) also look great. Forged NEEZ wheels are another (somewhat expensive) option. Search the forum for photos of various wheels on the E500E and see what floats your boat.

In general, any 19" wheels are really pushing the size limits. As diameter increases, ride firmness increases, so factor that into your decision - especially if the roads aren't super smooth where you live. Click here to see what 19's look like on an E500.

BTW - welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the Welcome, @gsxr, @szvook . Great Info. Thanks for explaining the ET (Einpresstiefe) values!
Do you have a preferred online retailer for these types of wheels?

My wheels are from HRE and HRE will make any of their wheels in any offset you want. The wheels are made to order, so you will have to wait a bit to get them. It used to be four weeks, but I think their turnaround time nowadays is closer to 5 weeks. Also, HRE wheels are not cheap if you want their forged wheels, but HRE makes good wheels.

They do offer their FlowForm wheels at a lower price, but I would not recommend them. Those are not fully forged wheels, more of a hybrid of forged and cast.

They also have their carbon fiber wheels, if you got money burning a hole if your pocket. But they are available only in larger sizes, 20” and above.

The classic/retro HRE wheels look very nice! And they'll set you up with perfectly fitting wheels for your car
