722.6 + 124.036 = True?

I plan to go 722.6 to rid myself of 722.3 issues. I already have a 722.6 and OfGear controller in my Dodge truck.

500E Club? I may be wrong but I don’t think we have a current member in the state of Louisiana.

Transmission sounds interesting but who are his customers?

Has anyone ever heard of southern hotrod & the 500eclub w.r.t. the 722.6 (in a w210/r129 bell housing) and the w124.036?
It should bolt up with various mods required, but the bigger issue is sorting out the aftermarket TCU.

Yeah, I figured the software part is the biggest gotcha and wont be at all with OE integration and refinement. Total neophyte question — is it at all possible to avoid software and use a purely mechanical setup w a 722.6? Or does that route require some super custom valve body that no developer would touch w a 10 ft pole?

AFAIK... no, it needs a standalone TCU of some sort. There are a couple of aftermarket options on the market with 10+ years of development, but they still aren't quite up to factory levels of seamlessness - but they do offer adjustability, which you don't get with factory.

I don't recall anyone figuring out how to adapt a factory TCU to work with the LH engine management. I do think some people have done a complete conversion with engine AND trans, with ME 1.0 ECU (to ditch the distributors), but that's a yuuuuuuuge amount of work with questionable results.

Remember that the main thing you get with the 722.6 (besides better reliabilty/longevity) is the ability to reduce RPM's at freeway cruising speeds, and higher top speed, with lower diff gears. Otherwise you can just leave the stock gears (or go to 3.06 - 3.27) and live with higher cruise RPM & lower top speed.

The likelihood of finding a ASR 3.06 diff is very slim. I am not sure of ASR was a option on a 1990 coupe or not. If yes, it would be a needle in a haystack find.

I think all 3.0L 24V M104s in W124s (like my ‘92 ASR Coupe; also the 300-24 sedans/estates in ROW??) used the larger case 3.06 diff...
The ones with the 7K redline.

They exist, but are indeed rare. I'm still looking for one, btw. 3.06 was the standard ratio on all 1991-92 coupes, but ASR was optional in USA, and for whatever reason almost nobody ticked the ASR option box when ordering.

3.06 non-ASR are plentiful; I've been looking into ways of making that work on the 500E using the speed sensors at the wheel, instead of at the diff.

Also, 3.07 gears are the smaller 185mm diff... 3.06 is the larger 210mm diff.

I know the 91-92 coupe ASR diff's exist and actually helped the new owner of my old 3.6 wagon find one, but it required lots of searching online.

I do not know why people insist on posting about products they have never used much less seen in real life. Is the TCM-2800 factory? No. Is it really good and potentially as good. Yes. But is it near perfect for every application on the planet without tuning? NO. Neither is the factory TCM. If you do not give it good information it goes from potentially not working to shifting like crap at best. It is like if I talked about what a pile of crap the 500e was all the time or even how awesome it was but had never even seen one except for pictures on the internet.

If you want a fully integrated TCM running a 722.6 in a 500e. Someone should just send me one and have me put it in and tune it and then guess what. That tune would work in the rest of them as long as they used the same transmission. It costs about 11k-15k depending on a few items to put a reman transmission in the car and tcm and tuning. That is installed. Turn key. Or if you want to build one at your place and fly me there. I charge time and travel. It typically takes me 2-3 days to have a really solid tune that 99% of people would think was factory. You guys could split the development cost. If anyone would like to ride in a car I have tuned 1st please feel free to come visit and I will take you for a ride.

And if you want 3.06 gears swap them into an asr diff from a non asr diff. Voila!!
