I haven't seen a new one for sale in quite a few years. If you do find one, the price may be silly. Note the part number with the -80 suffix indicates a rebuilt / remanufactured MAF. Haven't seen one of those in a long time either. (Edit - I forgot about this one for sale at €2.5k. Yikes.)

I should have a good used one, tested / guaranteed good / etc. If you have trouble finding a new one, drop me a line.

Are you certain you need one? How was your current MAF diagnosed as defective? Or do you just want a spare?

This is from my mechanic. You are so right about the valuation. They came across one for $800-900. They did the below to help stabilize the idle. To be clear it’s doesn’t run rough, it just has a frequency idle that is off a little. Have pulled the aftermarket distributor and rotor that was harboring condensation so got the Bosch. Just being a perfectionist….

Scanned the control modules in the vehicle. No codes were found in any of them. We went into the engine control module and looked at the ignition system, and fuel injection system. All the cylinders have almost identical numbers for the spark each cylinder gets, and the injector duration. That means they are all burning pretty evenly.-In an attempt to get it running a little better since we can not get our hands on a new mass air flow sensor, we performed a hot wire burn off for the mass air flow sensor to clean the sensor wire of any contaminants.-We also performed a bootstrap procedure to reset the mixture and sensor gear adaptation.

Just for giggles are your plugs gapped to 1.0-1.1 and is the vacuum line from the ezl to the intake in tact....ask me how I know :D

Can you elaborate on the problem / symptoms?

If there's condensation, the new cap should have additional vent slots added as described in this thread. Otherwise you'll end up with the same problem in the future. Also need to verify there are no oil leaks from either the exhaust cam sprocket (which drives the distributor), or from the intake cam solenoid which will leak oil along the lower edge of the distributor cap.

Unless your existing MAF is definitely defective, a different one will make zero difference. A bad MAF will typically (but not always) store a fault code on the LH module, and will almost always have issues with drivability, power, or fuel economy. Make sure the shop isn't throwing parts at a problem they do not understand. MAF's are cheap and easily available for many engines, but not for the 500E... and they are not a common failure either. So far, nothing you have described indicates a faulty MAF. If the shop has Star Diagnostics (SDS) to view live data from the MAF, they can use information found on this forum to verify if it's reading correctly. If the shop does not have this capability... I'd look for a different shop.

I am looking for a replacement MAF for my 93 500E, and wonder if the used one you mentioned is still available. Please let me know. Thank you.

Sent you a DM. Are you sure your existing MAF is defective? They are not particularly common failures.
