A little more caution on the Street is needed 997 rams RUF 993

Holy shit ... I believe that's my friend's car Rufus (Steve - Santa Cruz, CA) ... it's a 1996 993 Ruf Turbo R conversion. The drive occurred in Watsonville, just south of Santa Cruz ... I hope he's OK. That car is/was valued at $150K. What a loss.

Yes, that was Steve. I emailed him yesterday and he is ok. Car is a total loss. What a shame, but glad that Steve is uninjured!

Fortunately my brother passed on that drive as he went skiing instead. What a mess...

You know how people say things like "Don't watch that beheading video, there's no way to unsee it!". I could say the same thing about this. Just Damn...

Patrick, I'm glad to hear Steve is OK. I'll also reach out to him.

Based on the damage, either the truck was cutting the corner (that SO annoys me) or Steve didn't turn in time. And to make things worse, the silver 997 was following too close or wasn't paying attention. When we go on "Go-Fast" runs e.g. Mount Palomar/Mesa Grande/Hidden Valley, we tell all participants to ensure you have adequate distance in respect of the speed with the car in front of you. Also, keeping a distance reduces debris hitting the front of your car.

What a loss. Rufus was an amazing car.

Here's a vid of Steve describing what Rufus is ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr4C3aCku9c
