a review of a rebuilt 500E

NEW RULE: You many not publicly review any 90’s era Benz if you cannot pronounce “Blaupunkt.”

All that work and the Bowden cable hasn’t been adjusted — car forgot how to downshift. And I’ve heard the word “technically” too many times this month. There was nothing technical about that video.

that makes a lot of sense! ive had fast cars and some really slow cars and i can say - ive always enjoyed the kickdown! heck, i have a mb black series and will drive both cars back to back just for kicks

Would love to see more pics of the restoration & upgrades, anyone find photos posted anywhere? Wasn't much on the 'Gram.

Also - how did that video get 130k views in 10 days??

Yes... driving this one back to back compared to the 722.6 in my S55 is how I dialed in my 500E rebuilt transmission to my liking. I have the modulator pressure a little higher than it needs to be but I'll address that at some point. It kicks you in the back pretty good when you get on it, and it doesn't take much pedal travel (Bowden cable) for it to respond.

It used to be like this one, you damned near had to wring its neck to get any performance out of it. My theory is over time with all the heat in the engine bay the cable just stretches ever so slightly. 1/8" is all it takes to notice the difference.
