AC hose

Hi Guys,
Ok I went to get my Mercedes 500E AC recharge as it was no longer getting cold and I think the PO never got it recharged. When they went to recharge it they discovered a leak on the AC high pressure hose (I think thats what it is called). The technician told me the hose assemble to replace the high side hose cost $349.00. I looked at what he was going to order and it looked like the whole assembly with the drier. Is this right? Is there not just a separate hose for the high side? I had him hold off and took my car home.

Thanks,
Mario

Mario,

I suggest you research some of this stuff yourself. Parts.com, while not perfect, can help with parts diagrams and parts prices. See the parts diagram and related parts here:
http://www.parts.com/parts/1993/Mercedes-Benz/500E?siteid=2&vehicleid=42356&diagram=5715095
Parts.com should NEVER EVER EVER be used for parts diagrams. Only for entering already obtained MB part numbers, getting discounted prices for factory parts, and for ordering those parts.

For up to date parts diagrams, use the MB factory tool, the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) which is located at http://epc.startekinfo.com

Subscription for one year is free (you have to enter a debit or credit card, but it is not charged) for US cars, or $12 for US + international cars. This covers all MB models of cars, trucks, Smart vehicles, etc. The EPC works on Windows-based PCs only, so if you are using a Mac, you have to use it on Windows XP running under emulation (such as Parallels or VMware Fusion on Mac).

Again, DO NOT use parts.com as a parts diagram source. It is inaccurate and misleading, and not up to date.

Cheers,
Gerry

OUCH GERRY, that hand slap really hurt!

I meant to suggest that it is an easy way to get a sense of how things are put together and the cost. It is a starting point. Most folks who ask questions like this (non - DIY'ers) don't have EPC (don't mean to be condescending - we all have to ramp-up on our DIY knowledge).

OK, back to my hand lashings.

No, it's not a hand slap. It's a sharp implorement for folks NOT to use parts.com except as an ordering machine for discounted parts.

SO many people here have just gotten on there and then found that their parts diagrams are bad, and then given up or done the wrong thing. Just trying to get folks to use the primo combo of the EPC (which EVERYONE should have a subscription to) and p.com for ordering.

Cheers,
Gerry

Guys,
I appreciate all the help. I am just starting to get my bearings in working at this car. The dump questions will soon stop. Thank you for your patience with me .
