WANTED Air cleaner /intake

I need everything from the intake manifold up. The previous owner removed everything and replaced it with a hot rod filter. As I'm a newbie with this model, I don't even know what I'm missing. Are there other models of W124 that use the same components?

You will also need the intake air scoops that attach to at the back of the headlights FOR SALE - W124 V-8 Intake Air Scoop, Driver's Side, $60 shipped | Parts for Sale as well as the intake air hoses, commonly referred to as "zoom-tubes" here. Looks like Gerry still has the driver's side available

Yup, what captruff has is the correct airbox and inlet tubes (Zoom tubes).

Sheward has a good point - I am not seeing the enclosure around your headlights. Could be the main enclosure is present and you only need the back piece with the Zoom tube connection? Would need better photos of the back of both of your headlights to confirm. The "enclosure" is not fun to R&R... need to pull the headlights for starters. Looks like the pics below, after the headlight is removed.

gsxr, your photos are helpful with location and mounting of fluid reservoirs too. And my horns are mounted in front of the A/C condensor. Yours shows one behind the left headlamp.

Attached are photos of the back of each headlight enclosure.

I think you are missing the complete plastic enclosure for the headlights. Wow, that's unusual. It's a lot of work to remove those. This car is a 1994 E500, right? Strange!

gsxr, your photos are helpful with location and mounting of fluid reservoirs too. And my horns are mounted in front of the A/C condensor. Yours shows one behind the left headlamp.

What you see in my photo behind the left headlamp is the anti-theft alarm horn. You should have one there also, unless it was removed.

The primary horns for a 1994 E500 (and all E500E) are in 2 locations. One of them is in front of the AC condenser, the other is located behind the bumper near the passenger foglight. See red arrows in photo below on my 94 E500. All other 124 chassis have both horns in front of the AC condenser.

I see pics of the elusive Foam supports. Never have found any of them so if someone has them, send me a DM.

Yep, looks like the entire plastic surround that fits into the frame around the headlights is missing. Wow.

Today was about 5 hours out in the shop, and a lot of small things done.

The first thing I did was to give the exposed metal (which I'd removed the surface rust from) on the foot of the SLS fluid bracket, a couple of thin coats of Rust-Oleum black paint. Hopefully this should help keep any future corrosion away, at least for another decade or two.



Then it was time to clean the hardware with a wire brush, to get all of the surface rust off of the nuts. They cleaned up pretty nicely.



A rag soaked in brake cleaner made fairly short work of cleaning the area up...

Spent about 1.75 hours out in the shop this morning, doing a few miscellaneous and sundry tasks.

I decided to finish up a few things that I had not done UNDERNEATH the car.

First was to tighten and torque down the transmission pan bolts. I'd done this when I installed the pan, with the new gasket, but wanted to give things a little time to compress before I checked tightness again. All were quite tight. The torque value for the transmission pan bolts is 8Nm. I think I had mine around 10Nm, so slightly over-tightened, but not enough to bend the pan.

The next task was to re-install...

Removing/installing the air intake scoops that fit down into the above plastic pieces. This is the piece that was mentioned earlier in the thread, that I have one (driver's side) for sale. This is an NLA piece.

You can see the groove where the top part of the plastic air intake scoop presses into, immediately above the rectangular silver sticker in the image below.
