As per the title - looking for a very nice grey center console and the flip top armrest. Car is 268 grey. Car is a facelift 94/95.

Thanks,

Al

This is IMHO a better-than-OEM 268 Gray aftermarket locking flip top armrest.
Higher quality construction, roomier inside, svelty-er outside, better top hinge and dampening, same simple installation.
Perfect condition.
PM if interested.

I have both in virtually new condition. Are you wanting the wood roll top as well?

Drew

The center console I am referring to is the whole long console not the roll top center storage box. But, would also like to see pics of your roll top center storage with the wood as well as the flip top armrest.

if you can, please send pics to allan@lydon.org

Yes, your inquiry plainly stated console. Somehow I "read" storage box. Tired from a long weekend. I have all items. Feel free to call or PM me.

Update - Drew had a very nice armrest and roll-top storage box I purchased - Thanks!

Still looking for a very nice center console in 268 grey (7095 console color code).

Al

Can they be recovered with the original vinyl? It looks like the vinyl was molded onto the frame during manufacturing.

Duplicolor plastic and vinyl in medium grey.

I'll second this. I did a gray console in a W126 with this stuff and it turned out really nice. I was very pleased with it.

Dan

I yanked ny interior on the c126, everything got 3 coats including the carpet. The leather got replaced.

Hi, Provet. My apologies. I have been crazy busy and away from the Board. It is hard to tell in the pictures. Is the console looking mint or is it yellowed from sun, etc?

Thanks.

Jamie

It’s a spray paint called “Duplicolor” that is suitable for re-coloring interior pieces and fabrics. It’s a very very close match fo the factory gray color.
Interesting, I have various factory gray colors in my interior. Which shade of gray does it match?

The Duplicolor in Medium Grey is pretty darn close to virgin grey plastic (the underside not exposed to the sun). The vinyl and carpet did very well. Doorcards, dash, visors, all plastic trim. Clean surfaces of oils and soap residue, then prior to paint quickly rub with rubbing alcohol and let it dry, not touching the surface with anything but paint. A few light coats, let dry then repeat with a few light coats and let dry naturally over night. For bits that get sunlight, A pillars, door cars etc I "wipe" down with Aerospace 303 (not scrub). It has been more than 5 years for my C126 getting everything re-sprayed and it is very durable - even the carpeting!

as for your question, the 268 grey has a lot of blue, and vinyl/leather/plastic are all variants in shade of the same. You will notice the leather skin is a variant of the vinyl and totally off to the other side of the plastic. So it is just going to be in-between the current underside of any plastic not exposed to light and the color of your seat backs. Remove a visor so that the underside with the mirror is sitting on your seat, that shows you the difference. The grey begins to brown from the sun. My C126 is over 5 years since I did this and it still does well. SEM makes a great paint as well, the code escapes me however.

Thanks for that info, nocfn, but I’m still confused:

1. The virgin plastic is one shade of gray, but the vinyl and leather trim pieces are different shades of gray, some of which have color variations within them (such as the door pockets). Spraying all of them just makes the entire interior one shade of gray, which destroys originality, yes? What am I missing? I feel good about spraying the plastic back to its original underside color, but spraying the vinyl and leather parts concerns me, as they are not originally a match for the plastic shade of gray.

2. Did you say you can spray paint carpeting??!! How does that work? How do you achieve full coverage of each fiber of the carpet? How is the paint not disturbed by shoes? Etc

Thanks

@linjam — you are 100% correct that spraying the interior components and surfaces makes them a uniform color (and May slightly obscure the texture) that is not the same as the factory did or intended. I personally feel it may be a little unnatural looking. But some people likey prefer that uniform look and are willing to overlook it, particularly if their interior was really faded.

I have seen other MBs’ faded and discolored interiors airbrushed professionally to buff them up for sale. It can be well done professionally and look quite natural — an effect that can’t really be duplicated by a rattle can.

All that said, I think the rattle can treatment is best done on plastic parts like the third brake light and such.

Thanks Gerry, yes, that is my impression as well. Heaven knows I have a number of those in need of it and am grateful for the knowledge of this paint.

Do you happen to have any links to or other info on any outfits which perform the professional restoration/coloring of the other parts, as you mentioned?

I don't know of anyone in the Mid-Atlantic area who does this type of restoration.

You can always tell a painted interior because it simply looks "too good" and too uniform. For those not familiar with what shipped from the factory, it looks perfect. For those who do know the subtleties in materials, textures and colors between factory interior items, it looks 90% good, but not quite correct.
