Hey guys just got my 94 smoke silver on black delivered today . Bought from the legend Eddy Lai in BC Richmond Canada. 86k on the odometer and it has the euro cluster. Renntech Traction delete . Needs some tlc.

Looks like the valve cover gaskets have some seepage , the power steering pump very small buildup. Needs an alignment and different wheels if anyones interested in these let me know. The car idles weird at times most likely needs a tuneup since it wasn't driven much. It also lacks a bit of a pull so ill clean up the throttle plugs and go from there.

Deciding on some Vanity plates
- mb 94
- wolf
- rare
- benz

- Need true euro amber corners
- first gear start
- k & N drop in filters
- duck tail
- leistung exhaust
- ecu upgrade
- spacers
- wheels
- springs

Nice looking, I see you said spacers, I assume these are et37 17" SLK wheels, which I think are 7.5 & 8.5.

I have K&N OE replacement panel filters in my 500E & I really like them. Coupled with a decent performance exhaust that may not add any HP at all but a nice overall noise of the car on WOT.

K&N Filters get a bad rep from being over oiled & damaging MAF sensors etc. But I have had them in a number of Mercedes over the years & never a single problem. Service as per K&N’s advice, only oil the outside face of the filter & all should be well. If you change your mind they can be swapped out again in less than ten minutes so no biggie.

They are 17 clk wheels 7.5 8.5 .

I really like the slk amg aero 2 wheels . They are two piece and I love the amg oz 3 piece wheels.

I have the monoblock 2 on my e55 and was thinking of swapping before my sale but I fear of getting less money for the car because of the wheels. Although one guy said he preferred the smaller 17s with thicker rubber so I am waiting on his decision.

Also will look into wide Porsche wheels

Most Porsche wheels have E.T.s in the 50s which will necessitate 20mm spacers at minimum. I like the ducktail spoiler when blended in correctly as the recently discussed ex-Scott Schell car however I would not add one to your car due to the color rarity. Just my .02 cents. Congratulations on your acquisition!

Ya the car actually has spacers I just noticed ! Amazing. Would love some subltle Porsche touches like the wheels and slimline plate frames. For know im going to sort the car and then start with the fun stuff ! That Leistung Exhaust !!!!

Can you send me a link to the car you're referring to.

Congrats and happy see it made it home safely. Now the fun really begins.

Congrats on the amazing score. :) Focus on fixing the car first, so it's running as the factory intended, leak-free and normal power.

Be careful with wheels & spacers, I would strongly recommend buying wheels with the correct offset that do not require spacers. Using spacers of any kind tends to attract vibration issues at high speeds. [flame suit on]

Finally - unless you care more about appearance than ride & performance, keep the stock springs. You can adjust slightly via spring pads and tweaking the SLS adjustment in rear. The only options are H&R which lower too much (IMO - others like them), or cutting the stock springs a small amount (say, 1/4 or 1/2 coil). The AMG springs are NLA and anything else you may find will likely be an expensive gamble.

Yes of coarse first I am tending to the mechanical functioning of the vehicle then the slight mods. Currently I have a slight surge in rpm when at a stand still. It happens randomly and when in reverse it is slightly worse and jerks the car. After reading several threads on the issue first steps would be to change the plugs and the cap ?

The car actually has spacers on it i just noticed. They seem to be 15mm all around. Ill have to check when its warmer. I have cut springs on prior Mercedes cars myself with excellent results also switching the spring pads. I worked on my friends sls system in his widebody w126 and adjusted the height as well. I want to have a very flush and clean stance with hardly and wheel gap.

I may be able to keep my 18 monoblocks from my e55 if the seller decides to purchase the car with the clk wheels on my e500.

To me the front ride height looks low enough. I would drop a bump on the rear spring pads & call it good. Also check the SLS is adjusted correctly after changing ride height. Personally I'm not a fan of cutting springs.

You can purchase a blink code reader on fleabay which is for the most part all you need for diagnosing a 500E. There is a guide to reading the codes on this forums DIY section. Which by the way is a brilliant resource for repair info! No other w124 forum even comes close to the expertise & variety of tasks covered on 500E board

To each his own on ride height. Thanks for the info on the blink code reader ! Ride height will change based on which wheel tire sizes I will have but that wont be for a while =)

Since the 036 has flared fenders that have larger openings compared to a normal 124... if you lower the car enough to have almost zero gap, it will either be sitting on the suspension stops, or very close. It may look cool, but the ride quality will be less than ideal. Just something to keep in mind before you put it in the weeds...

I got to swing round and see this early this morning at Marks place in Chicago, before the cleanup - what a nice car - very solid and honest, cared for and ready for the remaining finishing touches!

Ill have to see what the ideal ride height will be for me . Ive worked on many cars and altered the ride height without issues including my 1967 w108 which had an additional compensating spring. I like to make it look cool and function properly.

Mark,

I noticed you asked KoLos about the faded wood.

If it's just a dull finish, you can try to bring it up with something like McGuires Scratch Remover which has a mild abrasive and then wax. If the wood is actually faded out the finish would need to removed and the wood re-stained. If that's the case leave it to the Pros and I would advise you to send it to Madera Concepts in California.

Thanks for looking out, It is not faded just the clear coat and has typical wear. I have heard of Madera and if it comes down to that I will send it out !

I was going to close the armrest and one of the little arms next to the pump cracked off is there an easy fix for that. I am not sure if that arm rest is supposed to lock into place when down mine kind of rests on the center console. It locks in the upright position.

Thanks

It should not rest on center console it should be resting leveled

Gerry posted a fix for the armrest straps and the little shock absorber. Should find in the "How To" WIKI's somewhere.

The armrest should be level. Since the armrest is attached to and moves with the seat it might rest on the council if the seat is in the low position or at least be the really close.

Exactly, nothing to add. It's easy work

Ill have a look ok that makes sense with the armrest im 6 ft 5 so the seat is all the way back and down

Is it necessary to swap out the resevoir or just the hoses and clamps.
That reservoir is toast. New reservoir, new Reutter cap, new Hella level sensor. Clamps can be re-used if not rusted. Lower hose should be fine, hose to overflow tank in fender may need replacement (7.5mm ID), probably want to pull the fender liner and clean out the debris which collects in that area and also empty out the overflow tank. If the coolant hasn't been flushed recently (should be done every 3-5 years), this would be a good time. Zerex G-05 only, 50% mix, only pour in pre-mixed. Search the forum for more info on the reservoir replacement & coolant flush, this has been covered multiple times...

Excellent can't wait for warm weather to start working on all of these things ! Where do you guys get your parts ive ordered alot from peach, az, and mboemparts.com.

Looks like my head gaskets are leaky as well. Overall the car runs great although when driving forum members Dario's car his seemed a bit more responsive quite possibly because of his first gear valve body and ecu upgrade. Although I think that with new plugs and distributor cap that may help my situation.

Naperville (mboemparts) is good for OE/dealer stuff, especially with the free shipping deal for forum members. AHAZ is ok but they have been carrying more junk brands and fewer good brands (click here for list). PeachParts is a good vendor as well, along with FCP Euro, whose claim to fame is lifetime warranty on all parts.

Unless the head gaskets have a severe leak, just ignore it. Parts & labor for head gaskets on the M119 is innnnn-sane.

Remember that ECU upgrade only improves full-throttle power. Any perceived power gain at part throttle is due to other differences, not the ECU. You can get temporary FGS by moving the shift lever to the "B" position while stopped, then moving it back to "D"; the trans will start in 1st once when you do this. Repeat as necessary.

I've been using mboemparts (MB Naperville) for all of my factory parts orders in recent months, and the free shipping offer for members of this site is FAAAAANTASTIC !! They are very easy to deal with, have a much improved web site over the old "parts.com" days, and their shipping is just as fast as ever. I usually have everything in 4 business days after order. My most recent order was a big load of spark plugs and two "PREMIUM UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY" decals for my C126. The decals had to come from Germany, but the order was still received in 5 business days from order.

Snowy day in Chicago cant do much on the outside so I warmed the car up and started detailing some interior bits that are filthy .

I repaird the sliding compartment push button that was loose we will see how long it holds. Seems as if the threads in the wood are shot. I put some loctite in the threads and screwed the screws in and I put loctite under the vinyl lip. I polished the center wood trim piece best I could for now. The ashtray, center piece, and rear sliding tray will have to be redone at some point in time. I also glued a couple cracked trim pieces on the underside portion of the center console trim.

That Burlwood looks pretty good. I can't see any cracks besides the one. I had a local piano refinisher polish the clearcoat on one of my earlier cars wood to very good results. A good time to use a little black shoe polish to touch up the shifter.
