Beru plug wire set: Partsgeek alternate source

I found this link to Partsgeek for a set of ignition wires for my 1994 E420. Thank you.

Unfortunately, Partsgeek doesn't ship outside the US. I've searched for another source but so far no luck.

Does anyone on this forum know of another source for the BERU set, perhaps someone else who doesn't live in the US?

If we weren't living in Covid times, I could have it shipped to Blaine, Washington, which is a 30 minute drive....

After a frustrating week looking for a way to order the Spark Plug wire set from Partsgeek, and having no luck, I've decided to investigate other sources. They don't ship to Canada, and they won't ship to a friend in Washington St because my credit card is Canadian. I feel like I'm in a Seinfeld episode, where instead of soup, the vendor has an overly firm hold on auto parts.

Gerryvz, I thought briefly about ordering a custom set from you. Do you have a set and a price you are willing to sell it for?

Alternatively, I've had good results from NGK for my Miata, and I can get an NGK set specifically for this engine from Rock Auto, who in the past has been very eager to provide parts for any of my cars.

Any thoughts from here?

Thank you.

Rob

I've always wondered what the NGK set was like. I've never had my hands on one so I don't know details. If you do buy NGK, please post some photos of the set, along with length measurements. I'd try to find a different supplier though, if the prices are similar.

I am sure that you could PayPal someone here in the US the money, and they they would pay for it and get it delivered, and forward on to someone.

If I were to create a set of wires, they would probably cost 50% more money than the PartsGeek wires. It's prohibitive cost and not many folks were interested, so I shelved the project.

Rob, if a Canadian bank Visa is your only issue, having a PayPal account setup using the same credit card is your solution. As an aside, living in the same region as you, I never understand why they do not open up the Point Roberts border. It would make deliveries a lot simpler during these Covid times for people like us.

Thank you gerryvz and SamSL.

I've never used PayPal, so it's not something I had considered.

If it can solve this problem, it's worth the learning curve!

Rob

Well, guys, that was relatively painless. Registered with PayPal, and placed the order.

Still not 100% sure, because the Partsgeek order form said my requested quantity of One exceeded the quantity on hand, despite the fact that prior to ordering, there had been 1 in stock.

So, we'll see!

Thanks to all for dragging me kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.

Sorry, gsxr, I've found that I can use PayPal to pay for the wires, so for now, at least, I won't be documenting NGK experience. I may have to later if I ultimately don't get them from Partsgeek. I have also wondered about them. Do they have solid core? I don't know.

Anyone else?

Update:

After the drama around getting Partsgeek to send me the Beru Spark Plug wire set, I'm happy to report the package arrived at my US destination the next day. Fantastic.

I was feeling a little guilty though, because for a day or so, after my order, the Partsgeek order page showed 0 quantity. Had I purchased the last one?

Well, no, the page now shows Qty 1, so, I feel better that I haven't left the next guy in the lurch.

My next step is to order spark plugs F8DC4. I've ordered 8 from a Canadian source at a really good price ($3.22 C$) but they are backordered
Amazon has 1 in stock. One spark plug?

Oh well. I'll find some.

Thanks to all who helped me,

Rob

Well, it's been a trip.

I've spent 6 months dealing with my health so my ability to work on my E420 has been limited. In that time, I've had my ETA rebuilt and replaced it, replaced the MAF sensor, replaced the spark plugs that a mechanic installed (NGK) with Bosch F8dc4s (I now have a spare set because I had given up on a set I had ordered 6 months ago and I just received notice it will be arriving next week. It reminds me of the old joke about the guy who takes his shoe repair ticket into the cobbler 20 years after taking them in for repair...) anyway, I just finished replacing the spark plug replacement and wiring.

There are two loose ends that I can't remember where they go, and so I am somewhat sheepishly asking for answers.

The first is a vacuum line.

The second is an electrical connection coming from the driver's side in the midst of a triangle formed by the ds distributor, headlight, and coil bay.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Rob

The wire is the intake air temp sensor, it plugs into the plastic air duct housing behind the driver headlight.

We'll need more pics of the hose to see where it goes on the other end... can't tell from the one photo.

:detective:

Thanks, gsxr. I'll take more photos of the hose.

I had wondered about the headlight connection. I took that off a while ago to change the coils.

Here are two more photos of that disconnected hose, showing where it is relative to the engine...

That helps. The disconnected hose is the vacuum feed to the 2 solenoids located at the passenger fender, behind the washer reservoir. It's for the EGR and smog pump. Neither of those systems will work with that vac hose disconnected.

Awesome, thanks. I did have a look at one of your pics that showed spark plug wiring routing, and I was able to see where that line headed, but not where it ended. Everything helps my understanding.

These vacuum lines and their routing are all laid out in the Top-End Rebuild thread in the Project Journals sub-forum. I replaced all of the vacuum lines and connectors as part of the project, and documented everything with detailed photos after I rebuilt and re-installed the intake manifold.
