Blower motor dead

Hello all

Had my 92 500E parked up for a month or so and upon starting it today the blower motor is completely dead - no functions work at all at any speeds.

Fuse looks OK and has recently been replaced but anything else I should check? With the buttons on the vents themselves do get hot indicating some air getting through but it's hardly anything. None of the buttons work.

I have the climate control with the air recirculation button. The button light did not illuminate on start up but after some driving it works now.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Bill

You could be looking at a new fan and regulator. Do some tests as per here :

Such as the strip fuse:

Cheers B. Strip fuse was (is) good but I clumsily broke it, it was so fragile, I think it may have had a hairline crack that was difficult to see but as soon as I touched it, it broke. Power is getting there anyway so this is not the issue. Fuse 12 replaced in the fusebox, no difference either. None of the buttons on the CC panel work.

I think the regulator may be at fault. After reading a few threads it appears to be located behind the blower motor. If this is the case, I will also replace the blower motor too - plently of second hand spares around but I don't think that is worth the hassle as they're probably worn out / near death given the age of these cars. I remember MB parts being silly money (£500+) so i'm not bothering with that. I have found a Hella part which is roughly £150 ish, I suppose an MB resistor would be £50-60? From the part number I have found online, 1248212151, it looks like the resistor is the same for all W124's - is this correct?

I don't think the twin front fans have ever worked since i've owned the car either. No difference with the AC engaged. Any ideas? I have replaced the aux resistor but no change. The fans are free to move by hand.

The Hella part I have found is - HELLA - Ref: 8EW 009 100-621. The part is £137.

The corresponding MB part number mentioned is A 000 830 82 08. I have looked on EPC and there are several blower motors. Can anyone confirm the original part number for a 1992 500E (pre-facelift) with climate control. German specs.

000 830 82 08 is for USA models with ACC, pre-facelift only.

Apparently, in Europe there were other blower motors used, depending if the car had manual or automatic climate control. I'm not positive, but I think 000-830-79-08 would be for manual (Tempmatik).

Dave - any way you could check EPC for me? My VIN is WDB1240361B744547. Looking for the correct MB part number so I can then source the correct aftermarket part.

As far as I am aware my car is German specs and has had automatic climate control from new.

Since you have ACC, and pre-facelift, your car *should* use 000 830 82 08... but I'd see if someone else can confirm that.
