Brake caliper colour?

Hi,

The brake calipers on my '94 E500 Limited are showing some corrosion. My mechanic told me that he could replace them with refurbished ones. However, the front calipers now seem unavailable and spray painting the original ones will be much cheaper than buying OEM. Mechanic proposes silver or black en he prefers black.

Is there an original colour number for the brake calipers on the E500 that my mechanic could use?

M.

Mine are silver with the EVOII wheels, and have been repainted. IDK, I supposed with slotted rotors they would really stand out. IMO I like the more subtle look I have and I think that is the stock color but don't quote me.

I'm in the process of cleaning and repainting all 4 of my calipers using the G2 caliper paint system, as part of a larger project to install new slotted rotors, Akebono ceramic pads, and Deerfield Precision braided SS hoses on all four corners. I went with gloss black for the calipers and like the way they look a lot on the Pear Black car behind EVOII wheels. Silver would look good too. I personally would not do any other color besides black or silver.

I am seeing a bit of corrosion as well on my calipers. Are you planning on removing them or painting while mounted to the car?

Since I'm doing all of that other work as well (replacing rotors, pads, hoses...), I did the caliper cleaning and painting with them completely off the car and on a workbench. The G2 system *says* it can be used with the calipers still on the car, but I can only imagine what a mess that would have been at least for me. There's absolutely no way I could have gotten them as clean as I did, nor gotten the paint applied as completely and evenly as I did, without doing this work on a bench. I will say it was a LOT of work, but I'm very happy with the results. Here's a shot with everything done and ready to be installed.

Mine were taken off the car as well. I used a black epoxy that's supposed to last forever. It now looks fantastic. Mine were really corroded by the way, getting rid of the corrosion was quite a niggle.

I recently rebuilt one of my rear caliper.
It was somehow corroded, i used a dremel. Polishing the rough surface gives a smooth touch.
I painted it (after rust treatment) with a zink spray, hope it last.

I bought a repair kit to renew it.
I would have 2 questions, which are a little bit off topic, but connected to calipers.
1. When puting back the pistons can i change the sides? (Puting the right side piston to the left side of the caliper and viceversa)
2. Is it possible to buy separatly this steel sheet item shown in the photo?

Thx in advance.
