Which AMG brake calipers

Hello Everyone!

Im new on this forum. I am from Norway, and have just bought my first w124 500 E. Im upgrading/installing a big brake system on the car and have a few questions for you guys! My plan is to use 345mm in the front, this i because the discs from clk 55 amg has almost the same offset? as the original discs. 345mm 30mm offset 46,5mm. I have ordered late style LCA, i have read about the clerance issues to ball joint. I have sourced down a set of 6-Piston clk 55 Amg calipers part.nr: 0034204783/85. Is this the only caliper i can use? or can i use calipers from a c63 w204/205? i know i have to trim an adjust the heat shields and get adapter brackets. In the rear im going to use 330mm, 26mm offset 57mm and 4 piston AMG calipers (I have all the parts for rear) im using 18" wheels.

Have anyone tried to innstall 8 pot calipers from e55amg?

Don't mix and match parts. If you use 6-piston calipers, use the matching rotor. If you mix & match, the rotor thickness MUST be correct for the caliper. Search this forum and others, there are lots of discussions on AMG brake upgrades. The rear brakes are more straightforward.

The 8-piston E55 calipers don't fit well on the 124 for various reasons, those rotors weigh a ton, and the one car I know of which had this setup allegedly had a soft brake pedal feel. The owner of that car removed the entire AMG brake setup and installed the late R129 "Silver Arrow" brakes instead, which are 100% bolt-on and have factory pedal feel.

If you have less than 400-450hp (or, stock 315-322hp)... the Silver Arrow brakes are adequate for street use. Larger brakes will cost more and be more difficult to install.

:seesaw:

Thanks for the help! I’m going to use 6 piston setup from clk 55 both rotors and calipers. I have a stock engine. Only reason I’m using bigger brakes is because it looks better. My wheels are pretty open and it doesn’t look nice with original brake setup.

Wow, another Norwegian joining the forum - that's great! :welcome3:

Update - this is not the posters car! Based on your IG username you have the only bagged 500E in Norway AFAIK, and that should be this car:
I had some contact with the owner of the car above which is bagged as well. I gave him information to build the ASR defeat switch which I guess still sit in the car.

I have/had big plans for doing a big brake install myself similar to what you are doing, but things has halted due to other and higher priorities in life. However, I have at least hoarded most of the parts and all is AMG, some new and some secondhand. All AMG brake set-ups are made by Brembo, just as for 80-90% of any sportscars around, it's just different mounting brackets, colours and stickers. I'll go for the performance package P030 for CLK55 AMG at front; 360mm discs and 6-pot calipers w/custom brackets. The rear will be a mix of the 2-piece 345mm front discs as you have, 4-pot calipers from Aston Martin Rapide, and separate parking brake calipers from Brembo (used on Dodge Viper and a number of Ferraries). Custom brackets needed for all of the rear set-up. The reason for using Aaston Martin calipers is that they showed up on eBay at an extraordinary low price and even brand new (take-offs), they are made by Brembo of course and are exactly the same as AMG also use. I've collected another 2 other sets of rear calipers as well, but ended up with this particular set for a better match to the style on the front calipers. The other 2 caliper sets are for sale BTW.

I'll do this for a couple of reasons; better brakes...which I probably don't need, but probably as much for my preferred style, plus I have an extensive sense for modifying things, it's really fun to let loose the creativity!
:banana1:

As for brakes vs. power - the braking effect is independent of how fast the car accelerates up to a certain speed. So the power in the car has nothing to do with the braking effect. That is also reflected in all testing & certification of brakes, which applies here in Norway as well. But high power and big brakes goes hand in hand anyway, because those cars can sustain harder driving repeatedly, or they achieve higher top speeds...I don't know...

Hello 500AMM! Cool to hear that you’re also from Norway😎

No it’s not the same car, I’m building the air ride system in my car now. But it’s looking like the other one you sent pictures of, same color also. I thought I was the first one in Norway to put air ride on a 500. Why did you put a asr defeat switch in his car?

Oh, excuse my mistake on your car and your living place! 🙄 ....my previous post #4 is updated.
That car I was pointing to was for sale a while ago, so I searched up the vehicle owners record on Statens Vegvesen and picked the new owner from there. I didn't install the ASR defeat switch in that car, but supported with information from the KIT I have and he built & installed it by himself. The ASR defeat switch is for turning off the anti-spin you know, another name could the "fun switch".:giggle:
