C63 with AMG Performance Package

No secret I've had need2speed for sale this summer. Since winter is coming with no suitable offers, I've dressed the leather and put her under cover for the winter. Still considering a 2010 C63 next spring as the easiest, most reliable means of upping the ante for the Silver State Open Road Rally. 2010 was the first year they offered the AMG Performance Package on the C63 in Canada, which includes limited slip, tuned performance suspension, and speed limiter deletion.

What I found a bit surprising was a comparison of the published dimensions between the C63 and W124 E500. Consider this:

Curb Weight C63: 3,916 lb. E500: 3,855 lb.
Length C63: 186.1 in. E500: 187.2 in.
Width C63: 79.5 in. E500: 70.7 in.
Height C63: 56.6 in. E500: 55.4 in.

Front Legroom C63: 41.7 in. E500:41.5 in.
Front Headroom C63: 37.1 in. E500: 37.5 in.
Rear Legroom C63: 33.4 in. E500: 33.5 in.
Rear Headroom C63: 36.9 in. E500: 36.9 in.

Who'da thunk it...the C63 is wider, taller and heavier than the E500 with virtually the same interior space. That additional 125hp is put to good use though, with a claimed 0-60mph of 4.5 sec vs the E500 claimed 6.3 sec. Also, the C63 develops peak power at 6,800 rpm vs the E500's 5,600 rpm, which hints at a potential top speed close to 200 mph ;-)

Can anyone out there share their experiences with a delimited C63?

Sounds like you need to find a way to add 100Hp to your E500 and you would be all set !

Hi Dean, We were mentioning some C63 Vs 500E figures in another thread. here's one more: Drag coefficient is .032 for both.

As for the C63, it won't do 320km/h on the PP package (487hp) as the really tuned ones (570-580hp) are topping at that. maybe 300-305 at most. Engine won't be to your liking, red line at 7200RPM with 600NM... If you really want to get a new MB go with the E63/CLS63 with Bi-turbo = 580HP & 900NM with PP

Cost does come into play, with the E63 roughly double that of the C63 in my local market. I think with that financial headroom, I can be pretty aggressive with engine tuning and weight reduction on the C63...nice CF hood for instance. But those power numbers you quote for the AMG E-Klasse are pretty potent!

They are really starting to liven up the W211 E55, with items like after market superchargers and coilover suspensions, have you considered one of these?

Nothing will bring the C63 to the power levels of the 2011< E63&CLS63. a $1500 Kleemann chip tuning will bring a CLS63 to 690PS (~1100NM), 720HP with 200cell cats.

C63 Supercharging+LH header+cat delete with get you near those numbers...but at near $30K !

The trump card for the E63 is its factory reliability...seen too many aftermarket jobs smoking at the side of the course :-(
