Hello to everyone!

Please help me to descide what to do:
Have bought steering box from the junkyard from e500 w124(its exact) but the number on it is a1404610805.
In epc is indicated a1244606801.

But it was installed on w124 e500.

Do anyone knows are they compatible?

My best regards!

[very simple,

The cast in part number is the casting and not the assembly part number. The completed assembly was probably an ink stamp originally. Any 034/036 steering gear is interchangeable for RH drive.

All years 124.034 (400E/E420) and 124.036 (500E/E500) use the same steering box. They are all interchangeable. As samiam mentioned above, the EPC part number does not normally appear on the steering box itself, you'll only see casting numbers which will not be found in the EPC.

However, the correct E500E box should NOT have a 140- part number on it. That does not sound like the correct box. And I had no idea it would even fit in a 124. The correct box is shown in the photos below, note the casting numbers have 124- prefix.

I would not use the 140 box in a 124, but that's just me...

Strange ....it was installed on w124 e500 ,but it is not familiar to photos given above

Did you personally remove it from a w124 500? Or are you going by the vendor's description / pen markings on the item?

Not me,but very close to me junkyard workers, they no need to fool me.
Of course there is a mistake chance ,I will pull the car up and look myself.
