500E Help on power steering leak

Here's a link to get you started. Probably the most common P/S leak is from the short hose below the reservoir, to the top of the pump:

Hi Guys, I need some advice. First time posting. I started restoring a 1994 e420, 170K miles, been sitting for 5 years.

I'm starting with the power steering leak because after towing it to my garage it just dumped all of the fluid partly on the tow truck and partly on the garage. After filling the reservoir, it dumped it again about 4 hours later, all at once. This is without starting the car, only rolling it and turning the wheel.

I took everything out, pump, steering gear and all the lines. I've replaced all of the low pressure lines, resealed the pump, and the steering shaft of the gear, I'm too scared to open the rest of the steering gear, but luckily it was only leaking at the shaft.

The final item is the high pressure line, The shield had been eaten away like it had made contact with the belt, so i thought that was the issue, but after removing the shield completely I'm not so sure anymore, the line looks good. I also don't think its the high pressure line because the fluid was dumped without starting the car. You would think a high pressure leak would occur after the pump is running.

My question is, should I take the high pressure hose to a hydraulic shop or just reinstall it as is? I'm scared they may not do it properly and screw up the fitting and the orientation of the fittings. And I cannot figure out if these fittings are detachable or not. If they were detachable I could take in just the hose part or even build my own. Does anyone know if these are detachable?

The high pressure hose almost never leaks. If you don't know for sure it's leaking, I'd leave it alone.

You can slide on a new heat shield, the metalized corrugated tubing is sold separately, sold by the meter. P/N 126-997-29-82, about $22 MSRP.
