It depends on what you want. I have a bolt up SS Time Valve Y-Pipe that replaces the center resonator. No welding required. It is a perfect fit replacement for the stock 500E resonator. It won’t leave your exhaust system butchered up.

I had an inline high flow cat welded on where the resonator would have been, It is a bit more throaty than stock, another upstream some would likely quiet it down that last bit.

Hello , 👋 I have change my Oem exhaust with a Remus e500 exhaust but haven’t notice any difference , was told to butcher the resonator but having doubts , any suggestions?

I had an exhaust fabricator who did custom dune buggy exhausts in Costa Mesa put my OEM resonator in a jig and cutout the resonator and weld in a Magnaflow SS Muffler for a Chevy Camero. The new resonator fits exactly in place of the OEM resonator. Notice the silver painted OEM connections from the Mercedes resonator connected to the Camero resonator. My Renntech back box came off of an 500SL and required an additional 3" SS Pipe to be fitted between the back box the Camero resonator.

@WorkOfArtLA,
I did this about 20 years ago. I'm not sure he is still there. I will have to go by where the shop is and check. Give me some time to check it out. You should also check out around your own area in Sun Valley for a local stainless steel exhaust fabricator, Don't use a muffler shop.

I have a Remus muffler. It does not add much rumble.

Yes, you need to delete the resonator to add a bit more rumble, but DO NOT butcher your existing resonator if it's in good condition. It is NLA and irreplaceable otherwise. Get a custom-made Y-pipe, which will be expensive if you tell the shop they CAN NOT chop the ends off your existing resonator. Shops always want to do that because it's easy and cheap.

I have a Y-pipe and Remus muffler and the exhaust is still pretty quiet. The factory catalysts flow very well but also reduce a lot of noise.

I agree with gsxr about not chopping up a good resonator but mine was rusted out so no loss here.
