Charcoal cannister compatibility

1244700859 does not exist in the EPC or MB systems. I think that it's the part number stamped on the canister housing, and the new part (1244700359) is sold as an assembly (maybe with a bracket or something). Canister appears NLA new.

Beware of used ones, they often have defective internal screens which allow carbon particles to exit the canister, and plug up the purge valve, causing a large vacuum leak. You can add a filter inline with the tubing to keep the valve clean.

Something similar to what you see below. You might need to search for "fuel filter", as the same type of filter is used on small engines (garden tractors / lawn mowers). Just needs to have the right size fittings for the hoses. Install the filter on the opposite side of the "MOT" port, on the canister side, with the flow arrow pointing towards the MOT/engine side.
