Anyone spotted this video yet?

He talks about the old mercs at around the 4:45 mark.

Quite cool to see all of the different Merc's and some of them look in pristine condition, especially the E500 Limited.

Nice video. My favorite part is how Harris goes nuts over the Mitsubishi Starion. Not sure how many people on this forum appreciate the Mitsubishi Starion, but, to me, this is a waaaay underappreciated car that represents the 80s in all its glorious excess. From the factory!

he is pretty "loose" on the term "mint" though(Like any other "Brit" ;) I think it has to be the number one favourite word to describe somethings that is nice from afar..but far from nice :) ....calling that Alpine Bmw at 2min 35..."mint"...look at that paint??its friggin nasty :)
with that said..i friggin love Chris H...Very knowledgable dude..and a good driver also.

^^^ Yes I’ve noticed this a lot lately. As my daughter likes to say, “there are levels to this.” Mint for some may not be so mint for others. I’ve also noticed now she’s taken to using the word “elite” to capture the point. I like that. There’s good, there’s great, there’s mint... but “elite” sort of captures what some may be after.

Indeed... its the ever evolving world of superlatives. The meaning of them become diluted with use, leading to a search for a newer, "more accurate" untainted word.

Yes... what kids are for...

I drooled over the RMAuctions site last week. But this video is like a mini-vacation on a Friday afternoon. I’d never leave that warehouse, by the way.

Two words that I formerly had no opinion on but now despise, as they have been corrupted through over-use by Generation-Ritalin*, are:

- EPIC - as in "That was an EPIC sandwich!" No. That was a tasty sandwich. That tale of Iliad and the Odyssey or Beowulf or Chang'e [Autumn Moon Festival] are epics. Your sandwich is not.

- BESPOKE - as in "Bespoke salad creations served daily..." No. The word "bespoke" has been used for centuries to describe menswear tailored for just one person. The word doesn't refer to any goddamned piece of shit like a f***ing salad.

"Towards the end of the models US run a widebody could be bought with a "Sports Handling Package" or SHP. This included adjustable front and rear struts and 1 inch wider wheels (up from 16 x 7 to 8" front and 16 x 8 to 9" rear). The SHP was only offered during the '88 and '89 model years. The package can be retro fitted to earlier pre-widebody cars."

9" wide wheels in 1988? wow. just wow. I wonder how many tire options were available!

Yeah - my two favorite wheels from the 80s where the wide Starion Wheel, and the MKII Toyota Supra wheel!

I owned an 87 Starion from new and loved it. BUT mine was an automatic but still fun to drive. Looked just like the one in the video. 2.5 liter Turbo w/ around 180 HP and 236 lbs of torque. Blew a head gasket after I washed the engine and it backfired. Tore it down and fixed it and drove another 50K miles. Sold it when it hit 140K miles for a paltry $4K

A commercial for the auction this spring where ALL these jap imports will be sold. no?

The craziest part is that ONE PERSON owned this entire collection. Imagine the effort that went into sourcing all those cars.

He had all the bases covered — Audi, Bentley, Alpina, AMG, BMW M, Porsche. What I loved is the collection wasn’t so Porsche 911 or exotic heavy as we’ve seen lately. It wasn’t blingy, expensive for expensive’s sake, but rather tastefully curated driver’s cars. The 300TE AMG Wagon was absolutely boss! That and the Bentley pre-split Mulliner T.

Since you live in the Bay Area you can appreciate and see through the silliness. This is all Silicon Valley Hyperbole. "Epic" "Giga" (e.g. Giga-factory), "Bespoke", "Curated" blah, blah, blah.

Bespoke always referred to custom menswear (typically London), "Curated" typically was Art Museum stuff, "Epic" was "once in multiple generations" type thing etc.
Then the Silicon Valley techies realized they could "culturally appropriate" these words to make themselves sound more clever and make their tech sound more mysterious and help them sell more, when in fact they were selling just run on the mill stuff.

I join you in your despise of this stuff.....being critical of this stuff is not about getting old....its about being honest

p.s. this surely qualifies as a rant - only if you have to sit through meetings in the Bay Area and listen to this nonsense can it evoke a rant like this...I'll go buy a blood pressure monitor now ;-)

FYI, On Celebrity Cruises My Wife & I are classified as ‘ELITE’. Your given that title for 200 cruise days at sea. It’s a gimmick to get you back. More perks, freebies and special parties. Still costs an arm & a leg.

lol

I had to look up what the heck a "body sonic amplifier" is from the video. Holy Moly ---- It translates the bass signal from the audio system into a mechanical shaking force that shakes your seat!!!! Sooooooooo 80ssssssss !!!!

Unfortunately they've just learned from the investment bankers. But yes, it's particularly repugnant coming from the Silicon Valley types. Kids are too sexy for their hair and shirts these days.

It's not available off the shelf, it is a Bespoke unit and was Curated from a specialty collection and it was originally manufactured in a Giga-factory

Yeah, but if it wasn't made in small-batch quantities in an old-world craft tradition that can take me through immersive and experiential frontiers, then I don't want it.

:smack:

:smack:

Yes, After they made it in small batch quantities, they took a break and got lunch at a Farmers Market in Menlo Park and had heirloom tomatoes and artisan cheese

....ok I'll stop now or I will make myself more crazy than the people who talk like this actually do

This E500 limited from the video going to auction next wednesday in Paris. If it goes for 40-50k eur could be good buy if 24,572 km is real? - https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa19/paris/lots/r0042-1994-mercedes-benz-e-500-limited/733329

@brigadier, Don’t get your hopes up. If that E500 limited w/15K miles on it is authentic I think it should hit $80K+

PS: I can’t get out of the Sotheby’s website with all of the “EYECANDY BENZs” they have coming up at thier 2019 Auctions.
I looked at the Limited about an hour ago and am still looking.
