FYI Comparison of Behr-Mahle and Wahler Thermostats

Figured that some folks would like to see the current style "aftermarket" thermostats from Behr/Mahle and Wahler. They are very similar in construction.

I've tried to do some side-by-side comparison shots here. The Behr unit was one I purchased back in 2016, but I believe it is still the current issue.

That's interesting - yours is the design I was expecting to see in the Wahler box that I got. Where did you get yours?

That is the same Wahler stats that I get here in yurop. (Not MB dealer but Wahler aftermarket)

I have a genuine MB NOS m119 stat to add pics of also.

Resurrecting the thread, There is a lot of negative feedback on the wahler T-Stat on both M-B's and BMW forums. Has anyone experienced quality issues with the Wahler T-Stats ? What brand is the OE T-Stat?

What brand is the OE T-Stat?

Early / 116- is Behr/Mahle.

Late / 119- is Wahler.

I think each mfr offers the other one aftermarket, but OE/Genuine will be as stated above. Photos here:

Thanks Dave. Behr OE and OEM look exactly the same, I am getting one to replace the a Wahler thermostat that was fitted back in 2015.

I did so I swapped it out after about a month and didn't look back.
