cup holders?

Just placed an order for the Porsche 996/997 Ultimate Cupholders. Looking forward to having what appears to be the best cupholder solution

Can you share what those are/look like?
Please search for “Ultimate cupholder Porsche” and you will find plenty of info. I believe much of this info is associated with our member @texas993

Those cup holders were never official MB accessories. In the US, they were marketed and sold through MB dealers, and various aftermarket sources. I can remember in the late 1990s seeing a display on my local MB dealer's parts department counter with these cup holders.

The problem with them (including not being that secure, nor great at holding cups), is that they required drilling through the door leather/MB-Tex and into the door card, which put screw holes in them. So, when you remove them, you have 3 or 4 garish holes in the door surface.

Fortunately, MB remedied this situation with the advent of the W210 in the US market.

We have seen countless E500Es up for sale over the years with these square monstrosities installed (or removed, leaving ugly holes in the doors).

Yup - what Gerry said above. ^^^

I hated those stupid cup holders. They were fragile and prone to breakage. And as Gerry said, when removed you have holes in the door leather! I had to source unmolested door leather panels for a couple of my cars, so I could eventually remove the blasted things. Don't drink & drive, folks.

I have one but it’s not on the door it’s mounted on the side of the center council. That would be on passenger side next to your left knee. It was already installed and came with the car when I purchased it 21 years ago.

Note: It is still serviceable and I use it once in a while. I actually have a new spare somewhere.

Anyway, where it’s located is not a bother to me but removing it would leave holes.
