Did Brabus produce a 5.3 liter 500E??

Hi,
I have a -92 Brabus 500E in my registerbeen in swedish motor magazines and it is built by Brabus. The interior and exterior features Brabus items like Brabus speedometer, seats, exhaustpipses etc. They say the car is a 5.3 litre Brabus conversion of the M119 and the powerfigures is 385hk/540nm wich is pretty near the 6-lite AMG. Why would Brabus to a small 300cc engine uppgrade and how could it give 59hp over the standard 326? If so the 6.0 Brabus would only have 23hp over the 5.3 and it has a 700cc increase? The guy has no paper on it. He says they have been lost.

Didn´t Brabus "just" produce the 6.0, 6.5 and the V12s? Or is this a custombuilt customer car? I doubt it..

Sounds like a typo/error to me. I've never heard of any Brabus M119 smaller than 6.0L. If it really is 5.3L there is no way it makes the same power as a 6L engine.

5.3 could be built by simply boring the cylinders to 100mm and using the stock 85mm 5.0 crank. But as Dave said, it wouldn't make 6.0 power.

Glen, I was thinking the same thing, but was too lazy to do the maths. The ROI would be terrible on boring to 100mm with standard stroke.

Bore x Stroke:
5.0L (4,973cc) = 96.5 x 85.0 (stock 500E)
5.?L (x,xxxcc) = 100 x 85.0 (bore increased with stock stroke)
5.6L (5,547cc) = 96.5 x 94.8 (stock bore + longer stroke)
6.0L (5,956cc) = 100 x 94.8 (bore increased + longer stroke)

It could have been an experiment on Brabus' part to see what kind of power it would make...after which they realized it wasn't worth it, lol.

Thanks everybody. I have had some conversation with Bernard and i will ask the owner for pictures of the enginebay so he can see. I doubt it is a real Brabus but interesting to investigate. Stay tuned!

This engine enlargement by changing the crankshaft is interesting stuff.
Like the M104. Otfried Schneider wrote some stuff on it too.

A while ago i read something on a alledged 6,3 liter Brabus engine. They must have ment this one.
