Disable ASR in 1990 500SL (R129)

I have a friend who has owned his 1990 500SL since new. It recently went into LHM (Limp Home Mode). Definitely an ASR issue. He knows that this model year has a unique ASR system different from later years (and egregiously expensive to fix - like $2K+ in parts alone).

I know there is a lot of discussion on defeating the ASR in the 036s so I wanted to ask if the level of effort to *permanently* disable the ASR in the 500SL is difficult.

Robert, as you alluded to, the ASR system in the 129.066 chassis is *completely* different than on the E500E.

I don't know what it would take to permanently disable it while retaining normal throttle function, but I expect @jhodg5ck can help your friend out.

Of course, I'd recommend fixing it, not deleting it...

It can be done... requires some NON ASR linkages and the like but you will keep your ABS. Much like we have done on 126's. Oh, cruise control goes away as well....
