I Think it is of interest to find out, the whereabouts of the E400 "Japaneze AMG" Think of it...named E400,,,,brilliant,,,,
MB allready had, 500E 400E E420 E500 and the E60 AMG, it could have been called E42 AMG!

Well now, maybe as a showcase and for Japan only, in the spring 2016 Classic Mercedes interesting issue (Super Cab)
500E, SL60 and many older cars R107 special and so on but most interesting imo was the E400, appearing to be of Sport Line
origin, it also does have something up front, 230kw/425nm.....

Not as bold as the E60 but I Think it is a capable gapfiller sort of, se it this way, you start with a 034, wow what a nice car, then
you try an 036 for size, WOW really something else, then, you get to experience the E60,500 6liter, double WOW.

If then, you happen to like the 034 wich is a sweet nice car with an understated appearence and a Little lack of oump, the E400
comes in to make it agile enough.

So what are the physics, apart from a sportier chassi/interior/Wheels/AMG body plastics, of the motor?
It does not say anywhere but I belive, if you use from the 500, parts like camshafts, cylinder head configuration, also the
inlet manifold wich has somewhat bigger ports, do a reprogramming of the LH and you have hp Close to the 500, offcourse
not as much torque but 425nm and give this Little Brother a first gear start you will not be too sorry for not having a 500.

You can do this yourself, if you do not want to go all the way and change to a 500 motor, step by step this is at worst
lifting the heads to put the bigger valve 500 heads and manifold on, not too complicated compared with the motor out
operation, and if you have a sound 4.2 in there, go for this relatively cheap/safe way of "muscle it up"

How far out is this, not much I Think but enough to intimidate your 036 fellas at times, a real sleeper.....

OH, thank you ever soo much, now only we have to translate all, well a Picture say more than a thousen Words.
Wonder if that is 500cams or AMG? Anyway your not going around the fact, bigger valves and the 400 manifold being smaller Runners/ports. I would like to post the whole article of the E400 BUT I have not been able to scan what I have, sorry about that.

Anyways this is good for a starter of the, I hope serious discussion of this matter.

Oh yes I do read better than speaking but I would like to practise talk also. thanks.

Very interesting stuff but no one seems to have a clue, I am in no doubt about the
Power and torque, just what was done to achieve it?

The '92 LH module installed on a 93-95 4.2L engine is good for +12hp at the wheels, +15hp at the crank. Assuming factory rating of 275 is accurate, that change alone bumps output to 290hp.

If they also put in camshafts, that might be enough to get the claimed ~308hp. So, my guess on the modifications... LH module and camshafts. Possibly head modifications too, not sure if that is really necessary though.

In other Words, I guess you come a long way using 500 hardware and as was shown in the Japaneze material a new E-prom

Really, do we need 5liter or 6 for that matter? Don't get me wrong, I Think it's great to do this what they did to the "lesser" 400

Larger displacement is all about that bass. I mean torque. Sure, the 4.2L can put out almost the same HP as the 5.0... but will never come close to the off-idle or low-rpm torque. For most typical street driving, which in USA cities will likely be under 3000rpm, torque is much more important.

sounds a bit like you were making a defensive argument on your honeymoon GSXR until I read the words following Sure.. :gsxracer:

I sure know what youre at, yesterday I was in the Town, a traffic jam suddenly showed a "breathinghole" up ahead, to get there Before the lights
turned red once again sigh, in a bit of an anger I stomped on the right one, so fucking WOT and first gear came in, a flickering yellow triangel all the
way into third gear and some 70mph city limit is 30 but I made it in the green light, sneaked home to the countryside very Quick.
Well I do still have my licence, to drive, not that fast but try do that in a 400 or 500 for that matter, say maybe the ASR made me a favour this time...
