E60 Sway bar on German Ebay

That bar could definitely help one get some action .... well worth the price!
:stormy:

Cheers,
Gerry

I'll give 'em 695 pesos but that's about it. Stupid high price. You could have a single custom bar fabbed for less than half that. Seller's 92.5% feedback rating ain't helping either...

:hornets:

To put it in perspective, the E60 bar I bought for my 190e came from Performance Products and was $170

I fully agree with Dave, you could get a custom one made for less than half the price & probably make it adjustable as we have on the race cars I run.

Hi.

I've asked the seller about the TüV certificate for this swaybar. For that price it's obvious that it's included. I have also got a price on a Brabus swaybar from Bernhard in Germany, 600 Euro incl. bushings. The prices are insane, but for a collector it may not be.

Custom made swaybar sounds interesting. Especially since I so far don't have any lead for that here in Europe. Do you have any proposals?

I've been threatening for the past few years to have a run of custom swaybars made for our cars. Perhaps I need to pick that project up off the back burner and dust it off....

How would an E60 Swaybar change the way the car drives?
I find the 500Es suspension and feel almost "perfect" when everything is in good shape.

Reduced body roll up front when cornering. Pretty much no difference in a straight line, other than maybe a bit less affected by strong side winds at higher speeds.

:apl:

Very little if any... it may be a bit stiffer up front but nothing drastic. I have the 32mm RENNtech bar on my E500 and I'm pretty happy with it. The rest of the suspension is stock except for RDM TEK rear camber kit.

Sounds like a good idea, Gerry!

I go for at least 30mm, but I prefer a 32mm one. Adjustable is not necessary for me, I'm not going to race the car.

I'm quite sure I can get 3-4 swaybars sold to Norway.

Cheers

Shipping costs to Europe would be very high due to the size/weight... best to have custom bars made locally. Shipping within the USA isn't bad, but overseas... shipping could be more than the cost of the bar itself.

Yes, you're right if it goes the regular way by UPS, USPS, DHL etc.. But I'm going to use surface shipping by boat, in a container.

Maybe it could be an idea for us Europeans to do a group transport overseas. Let's say it will be 20 swaybars, then it could be arranged something. What do you think guys?

-arnt-

Btw - the E60 swaybar didn't sell for 595 Euro. No response from the seller about the TüV papers either.

Ah yes, if you can ship a bunch via container (sea freight) that will definitely reduce the costs. You'd need to get a bunch of people to go in on the deal to really cut the price down, but that is a great way to get big/heavy items across the pond!

Gerry - any updates on this?

I'm too old for waiting and the live doesn't go in reply you know. :)

If I could get my hands on a spare stock 500E bar, I will be happy to work with a local shop to engineer one of an appropriate upgraded size and get a run of them (say 20 bars) fabricated.

I did this with a number of unobtainium (no longer available from MB) parts with the 300SEL 6.3, including the factory wheel chocks (metal), the factory oilpan skidplate kits, and the factory air suspension emergency buffer blocks & brackets.

Just need an E500E bar to use as a model. I don't want to take the one off of my car if I don't have to. Hopefully someone has a loose one I could use.

Cheers,
Gerry

I read, by Nick.ged on Benzworld that an R129 bar fits the 124 chassis.
Normally I wouldn't put any stock in any Benzworld information; Dave, JR and a few others excluded of course, but Nick seems to know his stuff. He has the Stratton wide bodied C124 that he's playing with and modifying (beyond restoration I fear).

Anyway, does anyone know, or have a 129 bar laying around? The E60 bushings have a 129 part number so at least the diameter, within .5 mm, is the same.

Also.... the E60 has been relisted, maybe we can make the listing a Sticky with asking price updates every week.....

Kind Regards,

Ron

Here's a link to the install manual I did for the 300SEL 6.3 oilpan skidplate reproductions I did. I think I had 40 kits made and sold every one of them for my cost (about $325 per kit). And I had to put the money UP FRONT to have those kits made.... :spend:

Cheers,
Gerry

I'm not sure I hold him in quite as high esteem. IIRC, he also claimed that C32 or E55 brakes "bolt up" to the 124, which has been clearly disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt. IMO, if the R129 bar was that simple and effective an upgrade, SOMEONE would have plastered photos & details all over the place since the R129 has been around longer than the 500E (over 20 years now).

The E60 bar/bushing is 30mm diameter, and at least one of the R129 bars is that size. Intro manual says 129.066 has 29mm, .061 has 30mm. EPC indicates that they may have superceded to 30mm up front on most models. The R129's have smaller rear bars (10-13mm) so those are of no use for us on a 124.

Hi Ron,

I've contacted the seller Albertowich about the TüV papers on it, but he haven't got that. Maybe that can be found other ways. I indicated that his price is sky high, but he prompt refused that. Now he has increased from 595Euro to 730Euro?!
Btw, I bought a 500E emblem from this guy, but the packing was too bad so it was bent during transport. But he refund my money immediately.

Wow - that skidplate looks very good, Gerry! Including the proper documentation too, I like that.

About cost and prepayment - that can be a bit risky for you to take on alone. I propose that those who want a swaybar for sure, should forward the money up front to you.

I'll be glad to pay in advance for a GVZTech bar
