Ez module compatibility

I was digging around in my stash and ran across an EZL module p/n 0155456032. I picked this up along the way I’m sure to keep as a spare, but it shows that this is from an S420 or the 126 140 chassis 400 SEL. Is this part compatible with my 92 400 E? Is there any cross compatibility with some of these ignition modules?

Your spare module may work in the 92 400E, but if so, it will not have the optimal ignition curves. Your 92 400E has lower compression (10:1) and the spare module was designed for higher compression (11:1). So, the spare module would have less ignition advance, possibly lower power output, and lower fuel economy. I've not tested this particular combination of engine/EZL so I'm not positive if it works or not.

Plug it in and see if the engine runs ok with it, if so, it's at least useful as an emergency spare for the trunk, or for future testing/diagnostics. But you probably wouldn't want to use it long-term.

Note the 4.2L EZL's have a model year / VIN break for each part number, the 012- and 013- modules are for the lower compression 4.2L engines used on 1992 model years. I was never able to figure out the difference between 014- and 015- but suspect it may be related to the change to open-deck blocks? The chassis break (B965057) is very close to the 1994 model year break, but there were no substantial engine changes related to the model year.
