Flip top armrest phone jack

I see a jack (cat.5 or RJ45 with 8 pin connector) in the flip top armrest. I assume this was used for factory phone connection? Is there 12v power supply coming to this jack? Has anyone try tapping into this for 12v power or utilize this jack for any other use?

The factory phone mounts in the trunk and the handset mounts in the armrest and connects to that RJ-45. You should be able to splice into the cable in the trunk and run 12VDC to the armrest but without the phone it doesn't do that by default.

I wouldn't use RJ45 cable for 12volt power, its really small, around 24 awg and solid core.

If your going to mount anything that requires upwards of 1 amp or more current, run some 18awg stranded cable up into the arm rest.

What types of applications could an RJ-45 be used for? I think mounting an iPod type flat plug could be a nice mod to have in that area, but just having a difficult time envisioning what an RJ-45 could be useful for.

Cheers,
Gerry
