WANTED Front Passenger Window Motor

You need the electric motor, not the regulator? The motors are available new, but spendy at ~$325 from discount dealers.

99.44% of the time, the motor is fine and the regulator fails (usually broken teeth). Regulators are available new for ~$110 from discount dealers. Get OE MB only.

It's the motor that is bad; I split the motor and some of the plastic teeth's inside the motor are broken off. Would be nice to replace the plastic gear only since the electric motor works perfectly fine.

I don´t get what is the problem

Dave—Are you talking about the front or rear? I’ve had to replace two or three motors on the front due to failure, but the rear windows always seem to be broken plastic that holds the end of the cable on the regulator. In fact I bought a number of used rear regulators only to replace them and have two of them snap as soon as I tried to check operation. Seems the weak link on the rear is the regulator. I never had a problem with the regulator on the front. Maybe I am lucky.

Jon, this is the front motor. I've had front regulator failures on multiple 124's, but never a motor failure.

The rears fail with at broken plastic piece you describe. The rear motor is not replaceable separately. I've maybe had 1 rear regulator fail, and IIRC I installed an aftermarket unit (Magneti-Marelli?) with an improved / better design vs OE.

I guess I’ve been lucky on the front. With two cars I think I’ve had three motors that just stopped working—probably just worn out after 30 years of use. Thanks for the info about the front regulators. What fails on them? The spring or does that geared half-moon just strip?

Every front regulator failure I've had, was broken / stripped teeth on the half-moon portion.

I've never had a front regulator fail, but did have one of the rear regulators in my former white 1995 E320 fail. Replaced that with a Magneti-Marelli aftermarket unit and it worked well.

Regulators are an item where lubrication is a very over-looked job. Probably something that should be done every 10 years of ownership. I think in 22.5 years of ownership of my E500, I've done all four regulators one time.

Highly recommend cleaning the window guide rails, and lubricating the front regulators periodically! Also verify the replaceable plastic slide is intact at the side rail (separate from the regulator). I've found these broken on multiple cars.

Despite the lube jobs, I still ended up with multiple cars that experienced broken teeth on the driver front regulator (possibly from lack of lube earlier in the car's life... pre-GSXR.)

You are right on with your comment; I also removed the door panel on the driver side. To inspect all the parts and clean and lubricate the rail and regulator. On the left front, I found a broken plastic slide. Luckly that part is easy available. Part#126-720-00-42
I will try to source a used window motor for the passenger side. $400 is a lot, for a basic simple window motor. Both window regulators are original and in great condition.
