Re: FS: 1997 E60 AMG wagon (W210), Silver/Black, 158kkm (New Westminster, BC, Canada)

[repost from another thread but it's more relevant here]

I've met with Robert, the guy who runs Splendid Auto, and he seems like a real car guy. He often has very interesting cars for sale (and rarely has dull ones). His cars are often featured on sites like Bring a Trailer (not that this is necessarily a sign of quality but it shows he knows which cars attract enthusiasts). He used to be a cinematographer so his photos are always great. Full disclosure, he is trying to sell my 124 cabriolet on consignment for me. It's a Japan import so I can't get it into the US at a price that makes sense until 2017. My wife hopes the car won't sell so I can bring it to the US. She loves it and wanted me to get another cabrio instead of my 500E.

Wow, that wagon is amazing!! I'd love to have it in my garage!! I wonder what market price for that is?

Nice find Dave. To bad we are not "CANUCKS" although your pretty close. It might work for you.

Dave,

Find something on THIS SIDE of the BORDER!!!

I'll look kind of dumb driving around in that E60 wagon when I am in my 80s.
Maybe I could use it for a "Hearse" at my funeral.

Have a NICE DAY

Re: FS: 1997 E60 AMG wagon (W210), Silver/Black, 158kkm (New Westminster, BC, Canada)

Lest we forget, it was Mercedes that lobbied the government to get the 25 year rule. (Klink, GSXR, others, am I wrong about this?) So when you see a nice car across the border that you want but can't get without a lot of hassle and expense, shake your fist at the folks in Stuttgart.

Re: FS: 1997 E60 AMG wagon (W210), Silver/Black, 158kkm (New Westminster, BC, Canada)

that distance between the c and d pillars! makes the car seem even longer!

Jeff has W210 saloons/sedans, not wagons.

Ughhhh......how selfish to not cater to MY needs!!!!!

Is it really that hard to get an inventory of us titled w210 e60 estates on hand for my choosing?

Haha yeah I was being sarcastic.....wondering why captruff doesn't have a stable of these for my choosing [emoji882]

Thanks Dave - will continue over there......back to original topic, I love the w210 wagons (prefer to w211) just the performance variants are so rare unfortunately

Feeling I am still staying on topic here......why do some around here not care for the w210 but seemingly are fans of the w211?

My brother has a face lifted w210 e320 for his beater.....it's a really nice car I think and a great value in today's market....w210 still "feels and looks more like a Benz" to me than w211

My feelings exactly. Not that I do not like 211's, in fact I have owned a few. However to me like the 124 the 210 still has a very German "utilitarian" type look and feel that is synonymous with what most of us love about Benz's. Whereas with the 211 Mercedes made a notable move to wards middle per say focusing a l lot more on aesthetics and making everything appear to nicer and higher quality then it really is (like Lexus, Infiniti and Acura). Again not a bad thing and they probably did not really have a choice but to do so as that is where the market was going.

I say, I ! A long time ago first time with the w210, 270, 220, 290, all Diesels made me a bit, blunt as they were, good in every aspect but dull.
I had the 500E and the 300E T to compare and that was not in favour to the 210's, now with other Eyes in retrospect, it was unfair BUT

Ownership of the E50 does make me really appreciate its solid feel and personality of it's own. I have even come to terms with the design
really it has grown on me. The 211, I don't know, I didn't feel too owerwhelmed and in short, I prefer the 210's and do say the W124 is in a class
of it's own, YES I'm biased as hell I am Roger

Re: 1997 E60 Estate FS in Vancouver BC

Stumbled across this when checking out an e34 wagon listed on BAT. No affiliation...but wish there was!

http://www.splendidauto.com/viewcar.aspx?carID=453

Stumbled I have one, right under my nose... here in my Town, yeah, one out of the 10 built.
This E60 '97 has NOT been in Japan so it does not have all the (fake)? stickers and compared to
this, it have an evenmoore elaborate interior, some moorestitching and leather.

There is a prizenegotiation going on, time will tell...

Interesting to see the motor #119 985! so it seems to be a bored out 4.2 block!?

Re: FS: 1997 E60 AMG wagon (W210), Silver/Black, 158kkm (New Westminster, BC, Canada)

I like this "E60 Wood Package" or however they call it. Thin wooden stripes on the doors, doors handles and even small stripe between the doors... nice nice.

It is almost certain NOT to be a 4.2L block, however the only way to confirm would be to inspect the block casting number on the driver side.

The .985 engine number is odd, and IMO indicates this might be a conversion... i.e., the car may have left the factory as an E420 estate, and was converted to 6.0L by AMG post-sale. If this were the case, the replacement block may have been stamped with the original engine number. RENNtech did this on their 6.0 conversions: the engine serial shows 119.985 (matching the datacard serial); however the casting number indicates a closed-deck 5.0 block replaced the original 4.2L.

Need a VIN for this wagon to see what the deal is... code 957? Datacard have engine .985 or 980? Etc...

:watchdrama:

Post #12 indicated $38k CDN asking price, but that was 2 years ago. Dunno if the price has gone up or down since then.

Re: 1997 E60 Estate FS in Vancouver BC

From looking closely on my bare 400E block wich must be one of the last closed decks as it say 11.0, also, really what was changed
on the block, it sure looks to be possibleto bore out to 97mm maybe even 100? I have to compare to a bare 500ed block.

Anyhow, I have seen on the E50s both 119 980 and 119 985 but that is the open deck motors so this one should have 119 975?
strange, anyway...

.97x indicates LH injection, .98x indicates ME injection. All W210's with M119 have ME injection and will be either .985 (4.2L) or .980 (5.0L, or factory 6.0L).

Again, this particular car is a bit of a mystery with a .985 engine under the hood.

:scratchchin:

119.985 is the designated engine version for the E420 and it will remain as such on a 6L conversion. Remember the 6L 119.98 was not listed officially in the sales brochures (there was only the E50 listed) but could be ordered on special requests. However in any case the original engine number will be carried over to the new closed deck block (if required due to open deck casting used in the factory). The engine number 985 also encodes for what chassis the engine is. Means: which manifolds, motor mounts, oil pan/pump etc is used... Therefore it is logic to keep the type designation numbers since it's still a ME Motor in a 210 chassis.

I know, there are 3 motors here at home, saying 119 980 genuin E50 ones, two rom '96 one '97 BUT a year ago at the breakers, there
was one '97 E50 with a motor marked 119 985, very odd...

If we say, 119 975 same # stamped closed/ open deck also for the 5liter variants.

Then most probably this wasn't the original engine anymore but only a regular 4.2.

So does anyone know if this listing is legit? In doing a little research online the dealer / seller looks anything but that. When you look at the imagines from Google Maps the place looks like a dump (and abandoned at that).

In my interactions with this Dealer (Robert), he’s been legit. He sold my cabrio on consignment for me. He didn’t take any of his commission because the ultimate sale price was a good chunk lower than he first predicted. He regularly has really cool and interesting cars, many of which find their way to sites like BaT (not as auction cars) because they’re proper enthusiast cars.

A trip to his facility is a delight for a car enthusiast. He might have a Maserati Biturbo, BMW E24 M6, 928, R129, Citroen, etc. Not a lot of super expensive cars (except for the occasional Porsche 930) and no newish cars, just cars that appeal to people who like cars.

Re: his facility, keep in mind Vancouver real estate is among the most expensive on the continent (Vancouver usually ranks first or second most expensive place in the world to live when you compare income to cost of living, most of which comes from high real estate prices). So he is tucked away somewhere where he can have room to store his cars.

Re: FS: 1997 E60 AMG wagon (W210), Silver/Black, 158kkm (New Westminster, BC, Canada)

The nightmare is getting it INTO the US. The rest, not so much of a nightmare.

No nightmares....drive it over the border with a dealer's plate on it, and never register it or pay a dime in taxes....DONE !

ie...my bud's E500 Limited has been living on a dealer plate for the past 15 years.

I can shed some light on this car as I’m the current owner . Shipped to Japan as a e430t . Amg japan did the build . Registered here in bc as an e60 on Icbc paperwork aswell as on all import documents. As photos show has amg serial number saying 0045 With original motor number carried over stamped on the block . Full bespoke amg interior as same as my e50 sedan .Has same floating amg front big brakes just like my e50 sedan . Sl600 vented Rears. All under carriage goodies are legit.

Full build amg car , 400hp and 420 ish tq in a seven seater lol I know this is the real deal as it’s heavier then my 97 E50 but faster . The car now sports an original staggered set of monobloks as it should have when it left amg.

I have an original exhaust from a crashed e50 parts car also a 1996 so I may put it back to stock . And the poor rebadge job done has been corrected by Vancouver Mercedes dealer as to be perfect placement .

Any other questions I’m happy to chat :)

Out of curiosity, does the 210 E60 AMG and 210 Brabus 6.0 perform equally?
