Love that paint color! Shame it's not black interior though. Headlights are incorrect, it does not have 500E Euro lights. Strange that the seller said he prefers the wrong lights. *shrug*

It was a new car I added to the GVZ database this morning, didn't have any details on this one before.

In another 10 years, I should have just about all the US cars covered in the database ;-)

I wonder about the accident. Seems like it was hit so hard that it ended up sitting for 6+ years before someone brave enough to tackle the damage bought it and repaired it...? Not very appealing.

I agree with gsxr, odd he chose those lights. "Because of the low miles and great condition I decided to do a full body respray" also an odd statement. We can't be certain the the front end was that bad or that it was the sole reason for the car to sit 6 years. The title is clear and so is the carfax but, depending on the state, the title doesn't necessarily have to show "rebuilt". Plus there are ways around that. Regardless, a proper inspection of the car will reveal some truths. If the original headlights and grill were not damaged in the accident they probably would have been shown in the spare parts photo. The relatively low starting bid does warrant a closer inspection though.

Cop-out excuse. Either he couldn't find a proper set or he didn't want to spend the 700+ for a set.

Re: FS: Ebay '92 500E, Bornite/Grey, 85kmi, $5,999, Salem, M

Maybe the seller simply did not know the 500 lights are different than other two-piece lights. Most people prefer the look of the single piece lights. I would like to upgrade my two-piecers to Euro 500 lights eventually for the looks. :-/

This is Francis' car...he was on here and Scott's site in the past. Nice guy. Good car IMO.

As for the lites, if I had a dollar for every 500E sporting regular W124 lites...I'd have about enough for a 30 pack of budweiser; cut him some slack. I'd rather have regular W124 euros than stock USA lites anyday.

Everyone is noob with these cars when you first get them. Its an easy fix (but expensive) for the anal rententive buyer....and not worth the 1/6th asking price for the 'correct' lites which are harder and harder to get nowadays. Hindsight, if it were me, was to put on a 94' hood and lites for a car I was selling.

Sold for $10K? So with considerations on lights and hood and other questionable issues (full respray?) did the buyer get a good deal if it is a genuine low mileage car? I think so.

The rare color helps a lot, IMO; and the wheels are pretty sweet. As noted above, the vast majority of people have no clue about the lights. The respray and accident damage would be my main concern when buying sight unseen, I'd rather check it out in person first. The sales price was a bit higher than I expected though. Note there were 3 bidders willing to pay ~$10k, bidder #4 topped out at $8k, #5 at $7.5k.

:spend:

I'm not surprised at all it went for what it did. Honest car and honest description, great color combo and low miles...win-win. Bonus that the title is clean and clear.

Looks like I'm the only person here to actually see the car in person. The re-spray was well done, matches great...and the shop masked off the door handles and mirror boots !...and none of it was done with a rattle can either. Accidents happen, especially with cars nearly 20 years old. And to wait to fix it right w/o having to endure a hit on the title was a good move IMO.

PO did point out a good one which made me LOL...one person here hating had junk chinese knock-off lites...talk about a cop-out ?!! EXACTLY why he didn't bother posting here...not much of a community spirit left for this genre it would seem...it's sad really.

I dunno, dude... I consider masking off door handles and mirrors a poor job. It takes an extra 30 mins (tops) to remove these items. There's no excuse other than frugality or sheer laziness by the shop to not remove them. Unfortunately my car got the same crappy treatment (years ago, before I bought the car) and it's obvious when those parts are removed. Makes you wonder if they bothered to remove any of the lights or trim on the Barney car, or just masked all that too?

That was me, and I stand behind my statement. If a guy knows perfectly well the standard 124 lights are not correct on the .036, and chooses to install them anyway, then claims he "prefers" them - oh please! He didn't want to bother to source the correct ones from Germany and pay considerably more. Whatever. If they are TYC or Depo that's icing on the cake for the new owner.

I actually like the Barney color! Would prefer it with black interior though...

:D :D
