The 1980s are Back

image002-1.jpg

Fuelfed is proud to be hosting the world’s largest gathering of pre-merger AMGs assembled by AMGNA at 233 W. Ogden in Westmont, IL, from 1981 to 1995. Yes, supporting our local heroes who helped define 1980s excess and style.

Thank you to the Winnetka Police force for their support.

All Chicagoland (and beyond) friends, come on down! June 29th, 8-11:30am.

I think it's going to be a really epic turnout, a lot of guys with super rare pre-mergers seem to be bringing their cars in from around the US.

Will you be in the show? I've seen pictures of your E60T, it looks badass.
I am a Fuelfed Classic member so should be able to get in. I think there was an email sent out that the "pre-merger" section is all the way down on the east side of the lot so I won't be there but somewhere else in the lot.

Yours is said to have a 6.3 engine. Is this true?

I've seen mutiple images of the 233west event. Impressive. The red C124 6.6 being present too. And many more.
Hello:

It has never been confirmed, but word on the street, urban myth, Wikipedia suggest that AMG made 2 M119 engines with a displacement of 6.3. Further speculation suggest that the likely recipient cars for those engines were the silver/black E60 of Hans Aufrecht and the Diamond Black/black E60 of Domingos Piedade as the aforementioned cars were ordered as personal cars.

At the Sunday cars and coffee event I was able to met up with Member: WDB748372 (Z) and were able to compare similarities and differences between my E60 sedan and his E60 estate and even got a few pictures together. See attached

Hello:

The VIN in the attached letter is a match to my vehicle and I have a copy of that document in my sales records as well. Now it is common knowledge that all E60 will decode back to an E50, so it always bothered me that the car was referenced as an E420 in that letter, but see the attached document which shows that E50 was crossed out and replaced with E420.

I notice similarities in these two images. Test-Group and Evap / Refueling Family have same text. First is this one (Bonhams Cars : 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 AMG Wagon VIN. WDB2102721A422118), the 2nd is the @captruff W210. Which has 119 980 stamp by the way.

Weird also Bonhams writes E420, but never mentions 5,995 cc.
Bonham's missed that it was a 6.0L. Eagle eye bidders spotted the displacement decals and scored a pretty nice deal, although the car was in VERY ROUGH condition. I mean, it had one tire in the salvage yard and the other three on banana peels! "Rough" is an understatement. Fortunately the new owner is restoring it to its original glory.

Hey from this angle it's pretty much done!

I think I may have gotten one of the worst cars from the auctions. Initially I questioned why this rolling pile of junk is listed to begin with but next thing you know I'm the proud owner of said junk:lolzz:

Progress is slow but hopefully in a year it should be almost done!

I was just grateful that it bid well past my "roll the dice" gambling limit. I likely would have harvested the engine for an 036 and then stuck a 5.0 back into the wagon. Much better to see it restored properly!

:gor-gor:

I see @WDB748372 owns the Barry Taylor E420T. Maybe i should look more often in the Owners section.

About the "Test-Group and Evap / Refueling Family" badges. This only indicates emission testing, and in no way any indication about the alleged 6.3 engines?

There is ZERO evidence that the alleged 6.3 engines were actually built. Until someone proves they exist, I'm still calling it urban legend. Seems extremely unlikely AMG would fabricate only 2 of these bespoke stroker crankshafts.

:hornets:

Extremely unlikely, but not impossible. How many bespoke stroker crankshafts of the red C124 6.6 were made?
Too bad @captruff has not made this a priority, examining the engine specs. Same goes for @WDB748372. Both hold the key.

I see this often.
Since i am still in contact with the Supercar Advocates SL72, to have them show me the engine stamp. Just like the blue German SL72.

If i had owned such a rarity, i would for sure have investigated this.
On the other hand, maybe i also would not have gone public with all these details.

Although I agree, there’s a tiny part of me that believes it might exist. My thinking is; why would someone start such a claim? I would think someone knew something and information was passed down. But yeah until any sort of actual proof it’s a baseless claim.

Same goes for @WDB748372. Both hold the key.
I did measure the stroke on my engine, probably have it somewhere in my owners thread. It’s just a regular E60, exactly the same as the other wagon. Although the only difference I recently noticed when comparing cars with Jeff is Barry Taylor actually installed an OBDII port so the black E60T has it. Doesn’t do anything besides power the MUX though.
