G-wagen owners sound off !

I think the G-wagons are da zizzle. My wife saw on the other day said. "That's Mercedes? It's so square...who would want one of those?" I replied that I would love to have one.
Ha ha, my wife says same thing... but then she also loves the look of the old Land Rovers... reminds her of her days in Africa.

Sharing my 96 G320 with factory (Japan) AMG package.

By the way, is it possible to replicate the VIN plate? When I got the G 10 years ago the VIN plate was damaged (photo attached), the previous owner might have tried to pry it off. I don't know why, but the door jamb area still has original paint.

Sure, happy to share. I believe the plaid-like design is called "Karo". It has the lever-operated lockers as shown. 2.9 liter OM602 normally aspirated diesel. Efficient, but leisurely. 5-speed manual helps, but 100 Km/hr is it's comfortable cruising speed.

I (somewhat recently) found a nice '93 500GE AMG and 2010 G55 AMG, both from Japan but now in Ohio.
2010 was a US model what some fancy samurai bought new in MN and moved to Tokyo :)

Thank you. The Camptop is manufactured by Schmude in Germany. It is a roof replacement requiring roughly 3 days to install with 2 people. A few G friends put together small batch of import orders from time to time and I joined the list. Installation was in the Bay Area at my friends small shop which has done a majority of the North American installations. It was awesome to be part of the process from start to finish.

That G500 has been my overland adventure vehicle for over a decade and 120K miles. From original spec, RTT, sleeping platforms, to camptop it has served me and my family well. The latest evolution interior build out is sleep/seat 3 adults format but it is lovely when just me and a dog too. I’m happy with the modification.

Club G has threads on the process if you are interested.

Where were you looking when you imported this car, did you deal with a broker, or visit yourself? Absolutely stunning vehicle - currently in the market for a very similar if not identical spec. My next dream really...

Hello,

Actually it was serendipity. I was on the "clubgwagen" forum, looking for something for my wife's SWB 463, when someone posted a link to a European club member's 460 Facebook group. I traced that to a posting of the truck listed for sale at "Finn.no", a Norwegian car sale site. Once I realized what it was, I made a concerted effort to contact the seller in Norway. He was very forthcoming, and knew the truck's entire history. We came to terms, and became friends. Yes, I used a broker, both in Norway, for export documentation and shipping, and another one in the U.S. for import documentation and logistics. It helped that the seller had shipped cars internationally before, and guided me through the process in Norway. Plus I had another friend in the U.S. who knew the ropes on this end.

Regards
Will
