Hammer coupe for sale on eBay, 6.0L DOHC M117

Yes, the same crack smoker. One of the MBWorld forum members had offered him 40k+ for the sedan and was turned down. His wagon got no bids at all.

All three cars are legit, built by Westmont and BHMA, but it depends upon what you consider to be a real "AMG" car. These started life as something else and were "converted" with a bunch of bolt-on parts....expensive parts I might add. The 6.0l 32v motor wasn't cheap, somewhere in the 80k range, if I remember correctly.

I looked at the photos a little closer. The speedo is interesting, no AMG logo, and it goes to 200mph. With 2.24 gears, the car might nibble at the 190 mark, but it doesn't have enough revs to actually go 200 with those gears & tires (assuming it has the power). The passenger headlight is seriously mis-aligned. The duck tail is moulded in to the body, which is a nice touch. The fog lights in the bumper are either missing, or have smoke covers over them... can't tell which.

Shame the seller doesn't have higher-resolution photos. He could take a lesson from the dude selling the overpriced W123 diesel coupe and $42k Euro 500E... bet if this "Hammer" was detailed like those are, with a hundred high-res photos of everything including the undercarriage, this guy might have sold one of his three Hammers. Small fuzzy photos of megabuck cars to be bid on sight unseen does not make for good sales presentation. Then again, he could be hiding something, like the clown with the RENNtech 400E... who knows.

I can't believe he turned down an offer of $40k for the 4-door Hammer. That's like the crack smoker with the $42k Euro 500E turned down the high bid of $34k on eBay (which is MORE than the car is worth, IMO), and turned down several $9k offers for his diesel coupe (which is probably about the right valuation). Makes you wonder what they're thinking... or if they're independently wealthy and can sit on the cars for years in storage, waiting for the right buyer/sucker to come along.

Your right on!

Believe this seller turned down several 40k+ offers from the same guy (RBYCC) he's on the MBWorld forum, has the TT red 300ce which he is converting into a wide body, sure you have seen his posts

Westmont had a body shop that did most of their install work and they were known for doing the metal, molded duck tails. From what I understand, this was before AMG was building them in mass. Don't believe BHMA did any molded duck tails, just the bolt on stuff

I posted the coupe photos & info on my website here. I saved the pictures from the wagon auction, from a year ago, but unforunately I did not print the auction listing to PDF. I included the auction description in a text file, but neglected to mention the asking price. The wagon was not a Hammer, it had the SOHC (16v) engine.

Archived photos & description of the black Hammer sedan from the same seller (Aaron Ruskin) are located here.

Seller pulled the auction, probably got cold feet that it might actually sell for $25k, and I bet he wanted a lot more. Check out his next auction... $125k for a 55 Chebby:

Same small blurry photos, but at least there's more of them this time.

Yes, he pulled the auction because of a error in the reserve, haha

Here is the wagon auction with the 6.0l

He lists the wagon as having a twin cam motor.

Who told you it was a single cam motor?

Wooops! Apparently there are two wagons with AMG 6.0 motors. Thanks for the link! The previous one was 1988 with SOHC, the recent one is 1987 with DOHC. I have added this one to my archives:

1987 300TE, 6.0L DOHC

1988 300TE, 6.0L SOHC

This guy is amazing, though... he's trying to sell these cars for top dollar, but can't be bothered to remove a child seat, or trash off the floor. Unreal. The hacked-in door speakers are another nice touch. Just like the coupe, I bet a serious detailing, and top-notch photography job, would help significantly. Oh well.
