Headlamp "on" warning buzzer ?

Sounds odd I know, but I can't remember if there is a buzzer to warn you if you leave the headlamps on and then remove the ignition key (I rarely use the car in the dark). Answer please before I break my neck delving around under the dash!

There is in mine (and in my 300TE).
Actually, it goes off when opening the door, not when you pull out the key with the door closed.

With US spec cars, yes, there is a warning buzzer if the headlight switch is left on and you open the driver's side door. I would assume that Euro spec cars would be similar.

Sorry to re-open an old thread but I would like to check if my 500E warning buzzer is operating correctly

With the headlamps switched on the warning buzzer will sound the instant the driver's door is opened.

However- the buzzer will sound with both the ignition on or off. Usually I thought the warning buzzer only sounded if the ignition was off- thus alerting you to not run the battery down when leaving the car. The fact that it buzzes even with the car running is really annoying!

Can anyone with a 1992 500E verifying that the HL warning buzzer still sounds with the engine running? I would like to know if this normal behaviour or not.

Just confirmed that the HL warning buzzer does NOT sound with the key in the ignition and the engine running. It does sound with the key out when the door is open.

Thankyou for confirming that. It appears I have some electrical troubleshooting to do. Now is the time to sort these sorts of jobs whilst the car is laid up.
