your inbox is full- so Im sure there are 200 messages.

But What do you want for the tester? Is it warranted not to be DOA?

Are there any shops / folks who rent these out?
Nope, but you can buy your own newer version... SDS C4 with HHT-Win support and a 38-pin cable that actually has 38 conductors inside. Search for @Jlaa's various post on this stuff in the past year or so. Ballpark cost is ~$750 including the laptop, hardware, and software.

Here is a sample of what you get:

@gsxr speaks the truth. I bought one of these (C3) back in 2012 or thereabouts and it's paid for itself numerous times over. I've got a C4 as well now, that I was able to pick up cheap. I don't know how I would maintain my cars without them.

I would really like to have one of the tablet versions rather than my laptop versions. A lot of stuff still, but easier to use and handle, and less storage space is required.

If you end up getting a system I can provide a zip file for HHT-WIN I found online. I purchased a SDS C4 unit and installed HHT-WIN myself. It's worth every penny.

I do have a tablet although quite a bulky one (Toughpad). It's a bit more difficult to navigate within HHT-WIN because the buttons are so close to each other. Often times I search part numbers on EPC, browse the web for codes etc. therefore would really prefer a keyboard/pointer instead of the the virtual keyboard/touch.

I don't really do anything with either of mine other than SDS. I have a VM with the EPC and WIS on my desktop computer when I need them. I know the ToughPads are bulky, but in my case, I would rather have the smaller form factor. That and only a couple of my cars still use the HHT emulator, so that's becoming less and less of a concern.

What's a good source for this stuff that isn't Chinese junk? I see experiences of other multiplexers only working some of the time.

Also, China car diags site is down, so no clue on a reputable source for a system.

Thanks!! Makes sense with the rebrand! It looks like their c3 and c4 set ups are out of stock.

Thanks Gerry, probably not the best investment but hard to pass up. I've never been seen one for sale on eBay. Rare as hens teeth!

On a related note, both my dvd copies of WIS/EPC which launch using a virtual "server" do not work any longer.. Are there any reliable sources for these programs Jay can be installed locally and do not require a sketchy virtual machine?

You can probably contact Mr. Seven @ Carobdtool and inquire about their multiplexers and well as their SDS/HHTWin setups on Thinkpad laptops as well as the full 38 pin cable.

So far I am pleased with their c4 mux and full 38 pin cable to run HHTWin on my 124. Note I am using software and a Dell laptop obtained NOT from China but from an American dude in NJ.

I am not pleased with the fact that my setup isn’t cooperating to run SDS with my 210 …. But I suspect this is a SW issue from the American seller and not a HW issue.

If the issue with your WIS/EPC is software related, like licensing, there are a couple of threads you can search for here that help in re-doing the licensing….

Hello, does the software contain any user manuals etc.

I have never seen any documentation related to an HHT or HHT-WIN and I can't believe nothing exists somewhere out there...

Thanks.

I spoke too soon...

Just found this on eBay, it looks like €3000 for the cartridges, cables and documents, I can't actually see an HHT device in the photos 😲

Presumably it would go in this place?

It might be of interest to someone after OEM part numbers etc.

That price is hilarious. If a working, functional HHT was included it would still be way overpriced, but without the HHT there's a few hundred euros worth of cables & cartridges. And, the cartridges might all be in Italian language, and you cannot change languages - that's hard-coded onto the cartridge.

Additional photos of the HHT are located at this link.

Quelle Suprise - it didn't sell and has been relisted at... €3000

Are those photos of your own HHT?

Yeah, nobody with a brain will pay €3k for some HHT cables and Italian manuals.

Are those photos of your own HHT?
Most of those photos were collected from the interwebs and old eBay listings.

The original HHT is not in high demand any longer, now that complete SDS clones with HHT-Win emulators are commonly available for well below $1k/€1k.

Would anyone happen to know if the banana plug cable set can connect to this socket on older cars and be used with HHT-WIN via laptop?

NO. The SDS systems with laptop have completely different cables.

HHT, SDS C3, SDS C4, and SDS M6 all have different cables... nothing interchanges!

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I mean the banana cable which is supplied with SDS systems.

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere there are 2 different size connectors on the car’s socket. My cable has ~4mm plugs.

From the image above which yellow (yl?) cable would I use? CAN High or CAN Low?

Where would the red +ve cable connect?

The banana plugs should all be the same size and will fit all 8- and 16-socket diagnostic ports. The only different size is 1mm sockets on 38-port diagnostic connectors.

You typically need +12v, ground, and a K-line for the system being tested. The K-line is typically Yellow but I'm not sure how it's labeled on your cable.

I'm at the very beginning of learning a bit about CAN mainly for work (Medical devices) but it could be of equal or better use for personal automotive purposes too.

These are the labels on my cable - from what you wrote, my blue strand matches best rather than yellow.

The white strand is unlabelled:

Banana plug adapters are good for older cars that use KE-Jet (M117, M103, etc.) but offer very very limited information. Easier just to use a LED blinker box for those vehs.
Understood, I don't have a blink box, this is just something I'm exploring to help owners of older Mercs I drive with using my kit.

Thanks.
I found an eBay seller who has listed an HHT manual, I made contact to ask for more details and it is 11 pages!!

The seller kindly sent me a photo of each page, here are pages 1 and 2 which show the module scope for the various vehicles:

I will collate them all into a combined pdf and post when I get a chance.
