In the past few years I have become greatly sympathetic to this line

At least twice a month – if I am out and about with the 036 - They walk up, or even try to wave me down! – and more than enough times I have had a knock at the door if its parked on the driveway….

Then its along the lines of Nice car! Would you be interested in Selling it?

And its always – ALWAYS – someone who has watched one too many car flipping shows – and hopes I am some rube/idiot who just thinks it’s a 30 year old beat up Mercedes Saloon and I will be delighted to let it go for a couple of thousand dollars.

I guess no harm in asking – but don’t get all shocked and butt hurt when I give you a number…

Does this happen to anyone else? Random People thinking you “Don’t know what you have”

Discovery Channel has a lot to answer for......

I get equally tired of general car flippers and dealers saying the same thing. They get a hold of project MB’s and have no knowledge of the product they are selling (anything with wheels). They simply skim off the top and provide no value to the consumer. A leech if you will robbing project cars from enthusiasts.

I was looking at a 600sl r129 local to me. Car was decent cosmetically but still had all the biodegradable wiring, leaking top, the typical r129 issues. I was willing to sort all that for a fair price.

When I inquired about the wiring the seller wouldn’t hear any of it. “GOOD LUCK BUDDY” “I KNOW WHAT I HAVE, MY PRICE IS FIRM IM NOT GOING ANY LOWER”

A week later they slashed the price in half from 8k to 4K and I told them to pound sand.

This was just one of those general buy here pay here type car flippers you see. I get so sick of it, if you’re not in it for the passion of the marque/engineering, and you don’t know what your are selling, then get the fuck out. You provide no value.

Yeah them too. These are the folks I expect higher interest rates to flush down the toilet actually. Hence the slash from $8k to $4k, though this washing out may take some time.

"These cars are worth X!!"

Me: "Yeah but THAT one isn't, or it wouldn't be on your lot. You and I both know the longer it sits here the less it'll be worth."

we know what you have and its a giant garage weight

Just 4 or 5 weeks ago I rang a Craigslist seller with a clapped out W210 E55 and kindly tried to explain the car was too far gone and was a parts car. He remained sure it would sell. You see he was a "dealer" and "bought at auctions" etc, etc. It continues to pop up every couple weeks.

Patience.

I’m optimistic that one can acquire a sweet set of proper monoblocks for less than one is selling a whole car for found wearing them. The market dictates it at least down here.

I find that when sellers state the OPs title, door’s open, slay away.
