187k miles on my 92 500e and the dealer tells me I need an engine. I can assure everyone this car has been very well maintained. I have the receipts to prove it. I have owned the car for a little over 40k miles and I bet I have 12k worth of service in it, including a new timing chain, wire harness, etc. I am still dealing with the shock of it.

Anyhow, let me know if anyone has a line on an m119 engine out of 92-95 sl or E, that can verify its provenance, with less than 150k miles.

Thanks
JG

Just a shot in the dark, but you may want to try Robert Fenton, in San Francisco, who has a huge stock of new and used E500E parts. I know he has a brand-new 1992 500E long-block in stock, and may have a used motor or two as well. May be worth calling him -- weekdays 415-456-4077 or 415-456-5151. He owns European Car Service in San Rafael, CA. He would ship to you on a pallet, no problem.

Cheers,
Gerry

Thanks Gerry.

Some more info. I went to start the car after not driving it for at least a week. I heard a heavy knocking sound, which I have heard before but normally went away within 10 seconds. This time it did not go away, and when I fit the pedal it got worse. The dealer service manager suggested changing the oil. I was running 0w-40, changed to 15w-50, both mobil 1. That might have helped the noise on idle, but not at higher revs.

Car was towed to the local dealer and they spent many hours looking at it. Cylinder 2 has low compression. They think something has broken in that cylinder.

Any ideas, let me know please.
