Is the fuel tank interchangeable between 400E and 500E with minimum modification?

Greetings, I picked up a slightly larger fuel tank that supposedly came off the 500E; looking for info from anyone who's done a tank swap. I entertain the idea of having an extra 4 to 5 gallons of petrol between fillups. Thanks in advance.

The tank itself is 100% bolt-in. However, all the trunk carpets are different because the 90L tank is something like 4 inches deeper. All the carpets are NLA.

Bigger problem is finding the 90L tank in the first place. They went NLA new years ago and it's very hard to find one, anywhere... plus shipping a fuel tank is between difficult and impossible.

How different are the trunk carpet between the 2 tanks? I got the carpet piece for the bulkhead that hides the tank; can the rest of the carpet pieces be left in place? Thanks.

The carpets are substantially different. I think you'd have to try and cut them, but the end result will definitely not look factory.
