Hi all – not much to report since  I have been very busy with other distractions and also mainly clearing up my garage and selling w124 spares pretty much on a daily basis (Thinning my hoard!)
The summer weather is now gone and the S280 is still being enjoyed as a second car. Hasn't missed a beat. The 500E never did make it out of the garage this year but it will for sure next spring. My 300E-24 is on the road also just not as much yet as the S280. My next plan is to take both the S280 and 300E-24 to my friends lift for a weekend of pre-winter cleaning and painting / waxoyling underneath both cars. Then they will all be put away for winter / winterised and I’ll finally get back to my 320CE resto again.

My Star Diagnostics system is also getting sorted by a board member and there will be a proper update and some info to share for members on that in a few weeks all being well. My first plan when I have Star working again is to diagnose what parking sensors are defective on the S280. I have 6x new aftermarket sensors for it but don’t want to start fitting them until I have a reasonable idea of which corner(s) of the car are defective first.

So....... stay tuned in a few weeks for more wrenching! :agree:

My 300E-24 was behaving itself until just yesterday. It has developed a nasty stumble when cold and taking off from junctions. Just does it once per trip when started up cold. But quite annoying as it does it at junctions usually!

I have never messed with the CIS injection system perhaps I need to get to grips with that at some stage in terms of checking the mixture. But for now I will stay positive that it is a distributer cap / ignition related issue. The cap and arm is brand new a few years back and covered barely 100 miles since. Quite likely it's moisture inside I will check the weekend.

I'm just very glad all my other m104 models are HFM and thus have no CIS or Distributer caps :agree:

Those look like nice fender liners though! [emoji23]

Great minds think alike! I did look at each fender liner and all of them had cracks / damage. But I will go back for the cill covers! Yesterday’s small haul were all C124 spares:

20180909_121207.jpg 20180908_130650.jpg

A spare & complete c124 door with working window regulator (That makes up a pair of C124 spare doors for me), a seatbelt butler with relay (to add to my growing collection of those), a pair of C124 locking pumps, sunroof lift arms, a 320CE HFM VDO ECU and 3x C124 rear window regulators (2 tested working in car – 1x I will repair the motor on).

20180909_121833.jpg

There are 2x C124’s for breaking and those are very rare to come across here. I have been very lucky and had my pick on them for several months. C124’s tend to eat window regulators so I think I have nearly a dozen working spares now which is great. I thnik I do have a real problem though because no matter how many spares I have I must have MORE :cheers1: Not good

The 500E never did make it out of the garage this year but it will for sure next spring

I had a change of heart on this and booked my 500E in for it’s annual inspection mid October. Nothing really needs done except for me finishing up fitting the replacement centre console in the interior. It will be nice to get it out even just for a few days before putting away for hibernation over winter. And this way each spring the car will be good to go so having the test renewal date at the end of the driving season isn’t a bad idea!

YES! Make it a worthwhile trip. Back in August, I had the 'ol Fünf-mobile up to an indicated 130mph, on, ahem, my own private test track. It felt good to let it stretch its legs and run --- run at the pace for which it was built to run.

+ 1 on that! Always good to allow your 500 to stretch her legs!

(P.S. Joe - is there anywhere in NI where you can [discreetly] allow your 500 its rein?)

Yes that is the plan Gents – open the taps on it for a bit at least and feel the relentless grunt of the m119 for a moment!

Unfortunately there are few places here to unleash the car. Not half as bad as England in terms of fixed speed cameras (Something like 6 total in NI altogether in Belfast area) but there are always plenty of cops around in both marked and unmarked cars. If caught at 100mph+ it would be license losing for sure.

But.... there are a few roads I know locally that are good + open / well away from people and not busy enough to have cops on it. So on occasion I may be known to get into 3 figures all be it very briefly (On a closed track I mean of course...)

Yesterday I spotted a non runner 220CE on the interwebs in Dublin for sale. The add alluded that “no reasonable offer would be refused” and that it was in good condition body wise. A 220 is not overly appealing to me at all (4 banger.....:| ) but I do have that spare 320 Engine laying around and the ECU’s etc. .... so I took the 4.5hr return drive to take a proper look at it.

I know EXACTLY where to look for rust on 124 models so I got to that first. Boot wheel tub was rusty and holed. The side tubs in the boot were not bad at all – quite clean. The factory punch holes in the rear arch fenderwells all had succumbed to rust as they always do. Jacking points were very scabby and would need welding too – again they all do here. But under the headlamps was solid as were the fenders which looked original. The paint was all original too from what I could tell at a brief inspection.

20180922_154904.jpg 20180922_154853.jpg

152k miles and some service history. But the engine bay was very grubby and it’s clear parts were missing. Like the AC pump which also seemed like the dealer had retrofitted an AC system to it when new –and not very well done at that. Engine wiring harness was thread bare of insulation and someone had spent alot of (unsuccessful) time taking things apart trying to figure out why it wouldn’t fire. I’m quite sure it blew the OVP from the bad wiring. It also was a 1996 reg car and had the IR key fob... which was missing it’s internal board on the key so that would have been a potential nightmare to figure out too.

It was good to see how good the shell was from the southern Ireland roads (No salt in some areas) but it was too much of another project to deal with, especially since they wanted very near $2k USD for it and wouldn’t budge! So I walked away. I hope to add more cars to my fleet next year so for now I need to stop browsing classifieds and get my 320CE restored

All summer I have been super busy with work and it’s only now that I can return to the 320CE resto and chip away at the weldathon through Autumn / Winter. To recap I bought this 320CE Sportline cheap as a resto project and trailered it home. It was a non runner but after quite a few seized items were replaced it fired up and ran great. (Albeit I could not drive it due to it’s condition underneath it would never pass MOT (inspection)

Yesterday I raised the rear end high enough to begin extracting the old suspension subframe. Every nut and bolt / arm/ hub / caliper etc and the subframe is being replaced on this car. So the only items I am retaining are the 17 genuine AMG monoblock wheels – that’s about it! I knew that getting into it and I have nearly all of the new parts already bought for the car's refurbishment underneath.

722.6 swap going into this one as well. Yesterday was rough dealing with super crusty bolts.... so much so that most of the bolts will need cut out so I’m waiting on a Sawzal now to get that done. I hope to be able to post updates now pretty much each weekend. These are essentially a couple of “Before” shots. Yep it’s not good!

Joe,

This should be a survey for the board about your activities.
I would like to know (maybe others would also) which type of self torture you prefer.
There will be 3 choices for the voters.

1. Is this the form of self torture that you prefer?

OR

2. At night, do you also flog your own back with a whip?

OR

3. BOTH?

Maybe you should take up bird watching or something as an antidote to your sickness.

Just busting your chops.Ha!

JC220 is perhaps disappointed that self flagellation has really largely disappeared after the 1960s - now he is forever searching for something that replaces that practice with equal amounts of anguish and suffering. :-) :-)

In terms of self Torture, that’s an easy one. Option 1!

Hours of crawling around a cold concrete floor with rust raining down and every fastener taking minimum 20 minutes to remove is really enough torture for me!
Bird watching does sound like a much more relaxing past time but I’d miss the rust in eyes & weld spatter burns too much :p

I hear ya!

Anyone who looks at this car thinks “are you mad?!” But truth to be told they all are like this here. Ok maybe not just a rusty but rust in the exact same spots – this one just requires slightly bigger patches! The best bit is always putting them back together with nice new parts knowing it’s good for another 30+ years – that’s what keeps you going on projects such as this.

On this resto I am trying some new stuff. Like blasting and hot dip galvanising the rear subframe and lower arms. The hubs will be shot blasted and POR 15 used as a protective coating. For the underbody repairs and any existing surface rust it will also be POR 15 with a Waxoyl schutz coating only as it remains flexible / self healing and will never trap moisture. All lines will be replaced with Kunifer and stainless. Basically I am going for an “Armageddon proof” 320CE

Today was my first time driving my 500E in well over a year. It had been sidelined and left in it’s heated garage all of that time but I ‘m happy to report it’s running A1 – like a champ and passed it’s MOT (Annual Inspection) with flying colours today. That means come next spring I am ready to take her out the second the weather improves.

It has been so long I was sort of re-discovering the 500E experience. It is such a capable cruiser with effortless low down grunt and silky smoothness. The subtle growl of the Fox exhaust is amazing even at idle. I wanted to take it nice and gentle cruising there and back, plus it was raining – only once did I give it a stab of throttle whilst driving along at 40ish. I love the analogue felling of the 500E. Mash the throttle and there is a momentary pause as it drops a gear and all at once the M119 lets out an unbecoming bellow as the tail squats and the tyres shred in protest– a second or so later the ASR steps in to reign it back in. I do have ASR delete but choose to leave it well alone - in particular on wet days!

It never gets old that rush of power the 500E has – just amazing for it’s time.

Oh yeah – I bought another w124. Just a parts mule though – should arrive tomorrow then I’ll know just how crusty a cadaver it is this time

Note to self – never buy even a parts car sight unseen! :doof: What turned up was an abomination. I think I’ll pull the engine and transmission this week and send the rest to the crusher.... it’s that bad. This is the vin decoder for it

VIN Decoder for Mercedes-Benz
The OM606 engine and pump are highly sought after here for engine swaps and superturbo builds so I'll do well on that at least. The one area I am unsure of is the 722.4 transmission – I did some googling but cant really find good information on it. It seems akin to the 722.3 but perhaps less reliable and slightly different gear rations? I am wondering if I should keep it in my hoard or sell it on..... has anyone any thoughts or knowledge on the 722.4 transmission? The car has 217k miles on it and has sat in a field for 5+ years. Yep - I can pick em :agree:

The engine starts right up - I swore it would be dead. All electrics in the car are dead too, likely due to moisture and corrosion. I’ll tell you what if there was a Zombie attack you really would want a w123 or w124 Diesel around..... damn things never die. All it needs is the starter motor to turn and it’ll run.

Joe, the non-turbo OM606.91x has many differences compared to the turbo 606.96x. The turbo engine has a reinforced head, beefier bottom end, piston oil squirters, etc. Generally not a good idea to put a turbocharger on the non-turbo long block, and if you do, keep the boost levels sane and power levels down as well. For a true SuperTurbo build (IMO, meaning 300-600hp) you need to start with a turbo 606.96x engine. :(

The 722.4 is the smaller / weaker transmission designed for engines that produce low torque, like the 606 non-turbo, and 602 turbo. It's fine for those applications but can't handle any real power.

Thanks for the info Dave. Don’t worry I won’t be doing anything with this engine myself it will be sold on. The last 2,5L diesel w124 donor engine I had went to Japan earlier this year for a G Wagon swap. I am removing all wiring in tact again on this one so as it can be used to swap another G wagon or similar.

The om606 mechanical pumps are sought after by the SuperTurbo guys. Not so much the non turbo om606 block as you rightly say.

It sounds like i'll be selling the 722.4 too!

A small update of sorts. That 300D parts w124 above had a short life with me. I stripped the engine, gearbox and lots of trim from it and took the shell for scrap on Saturday. It was still painful to see a w124 getting crushed and lifted up off my trailer by a scrap grab though.

On another note, I bought another car. But too good to be parts car! It’s a 230CE Coupe and there is method in my madness. Although I lusted after a 722.6 swap in my 320CE Sportline, it did still bug me that I would be removing the originality. Thus that 320CE will stay 100% original as is to be restored.

On the other hand those same mod ideas WILL be applied to this 230CE instead. The shell is solid and not rusted to death in the usual spots which is very good and rare to see here. A nice grey leather interior also – and Sportline gear shifter.... not sure if original to the car but a nice find. It has a LPG conversation recently carried out also which is fully functional – meaning it has the capability of running on cheap gas here at the pumps. (Literally Gas BTW – not Gasoline!) But has been off the road for about 5 years just sitting in a carport.

I didn’t get pics it was a very fleeting inspection and purchase – I’ll get it home next week and post pics of all it’s “Glory”. It does need alot of work – the hallmarks of any JC220 purchase! This 230CE will be subject to tasteful mods. Perhaps that widebody kit like the votes are calling for, modern black metallic MB colour paint, engine swap and 722.6 swap. Originality can be out the window with it. But it must wait in line for the 320CE to get done and out first.

My hopes for the 230CE being a potential project car were short lived. When I got the car home and took a much closer look around the old girl I noticed prior badly / unrepaired accident damage at the rear end  It had it’s share of other problems for sure, the old damage and the total unavailability new C124 repair panels such as the quarters and trunk floor means this is now a parts car - nothing more.

I will remove and hoard the full grey leather interior which under the litter and dirt is actually in great shape. I paid parts car money for the car anyway so all said and done I’ll have a nice interior added to my hoard and some profit towards other projects on the other bits once they go. It will be stripped bare in the coming weeks.

But I will keep on the lookout for a more suitable C124 for those high hopes I have of a second C124 project car– not that I need it but you know how it goes!

Now that you’ve successfully bought up every 124 in Eire, I think you’ll need to expand over to Northern Ireland and Scotland, eh?

Actually I am going to buy another 124 this weekend for parts and will keep doing so when they are becoming available. I am now on a mission to build a w124 used parts empire over here :p

Joe,

Is that rusty water in the headlight?

The interior looks great!!

Hi Terry - yes the headlamp has issues and has been full of water for many years hence the rust inside. It will of course be junked! There are plenty of good bits to get from this c124 so nothing will be wasted

My owners thread has been quiet for a while now which is simply because I haven’t had time to work much, if at all, on my cars recently  However with the Christmas break coming up I am looking forward to getting stuck in again! The main thing I want to progress is the welding on my 320CE. I have finally got a set of 4x repair plates for the jacking points from a vendor in Germany just a couple weeks ago so that was a great find.

In other “developments” I guess - I did also take home another stray last night – a 220CE which appeared on facebook for sale locally. I went to look it over on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by it’s condition overall. There is some rust to be repaired (Like they ALL have here unless pristine £££££ examples) but it is most definitely restorable. I still only have this poor picture from the vendor so bear with me on that!

Screenshot_20181216-213723_WhatsApp.jpg

It is an Imperial Red 1994 220CE Auto with cream / parchment/ :mushroom: / beige (Take your pic Gixer!) interior. It does run just fine for the most part – but some immediate items will be taken care of by me to make the car easier to move around and work on. Such as replace 3 out of 4x dud window regulators, the seatbelt butlers and some other items off hand. The rear screen is also cracked – but hey all C124’s require new screens by now due to de-lamination. The good thing is not only do I have a complete C124 parts donor (With all of the items I require) but I also have many, many C124 spares in my hoard including about a dozen seatbelt butlers and 14+ complete window regulators so it will cost me essentially nothing to pull a butt load of parts from my shelves and restore this red c124.

Only after this latest red c124 is made road legal again will I contemplate if I keep the 4 banger or do an engine swap…….

This particular C124 was from UK originally – then imported to the Isle of Man and it still holds an Isle of Man registration only. So the first step will be to try and get it registered in the UK – which should be entirely possible but may involve lots of red tape from the governing bodies. If any UK members can shed light on that I’m all ears. It’s been in the UK since approx. 2015 and never MOT’d or Taxed. Since I have a signed bill of sale dated when I bought the car those issues are (respectfully) not my problem in terms of my dealings with the DVLA! I will begin researching and completing the forms in earnest to start that process to hopefully obtain a UK V5 for this c124 which will have to be classed as an import.

I will provide better photos on the latest C124 very soon and 320CE progress will continue over the holidays

Got the first red C124 problem repaired tonight :p

20181218_193310.jpg

The drivers window would not move and was stuck slightly down which was letting rain water inside - not good at all! It can be seen in the picture above where the original regulator was missing teeth.

I had a very nice used genuine 2006 stamped motor / reg assembly on the shelf so swapped that in and all good now - nice tight seal on the window. I cleaned off the old grease inside the window rails which looked like valve lapping paste at this stage - and may do more work inside the door whilst the trim card is off. Maybe some cavity wax sprayed inside the door and remove / grease the limit strap.

It has drivers door lock issues too. Key tumbler is jammed solid and the central locking works everywhere except the drivers door which feels stuck. I have a couple of spare c124 latch assembly's so if I can get the lock tumbler working enough for removal I'll get another good latch assembly fitted and explore stripping down of the tumbler to get it working again too with the original key.

Both doors are rust free on the red c124 too. It's very common here to see rust right along the bottom of the doors inside edge so I was glad to see this one is OK.

More tinkering was done to the red c124 tonight! I had already changed out the very corroded fuses the first night I got the car home.

There were 2x warning lamps on the dash board however. One for the screenwash and one for bulb out warning. Some testing revealed a faulty screenwash level sender so I swapped it over from the parts c124. 1 lamp out.

The bulb out warning had 2x issues. The warning lamp was on constant obviously but also the hazard / indicator lights were non functional. Swapping in both a replacement hazard relay box + the bulb monitoring module (fabricobled names for these relays!) those problems were fixed too.

On top of that one (the passenger) seatbelt butler sprang back to life on its own and is working perfectly. The central locking malfunction on the drivers door also miraculously repaired itself too. Maybe I should call this one Christine.....

Anyway electrical wise things are looking up with "only" 2x rear window motors to change and one seatbelt butler. I will also fit a cheapie central locking fob so as I can easily operate the locking and leave the jammed drivers door tumbler repairs for another day. (Since the entire car will require striping down for a repaint anyhow)

There is alot of moisture in the coupe.... this is the result of the PO leaving it outside for a couple months with the bad drivers window regulator. The drivers mat was positively soaking in water when I pulled it out and the floorpan in that area had a good 1 inch of water in it. At least there are no rust holes in the floor if it holds water eh!! So now that mat is removed to dry out over a couple of weeks and I think I'll have to pull the seats + all undercarpets to really dry it out. I also have a small dehumidifier (mains powered) that I will leave plugged on inside the car for the foreseeable future and keep it emptied out.

I am going to find myself very busy on the red C124 now – I realised that in order for me to register it I must first have it pass the MOT (Annual Inspection) here. Oops – minor detail that. Oh dear. Missing exhaust, brakework required & lots of other jobs require doing (Including welding) pronto to make it worthy of presenting for the test.

I’d like to try and be frugal on this preparation as I do not want to start dumping ££££ into this latest C124 without knowing how the registration situation is going to go. That registration process can’t even begin until I have an MOT certificate in hand. I did insure it today too. So the first task was to track down a good used exhaust system – I am very lucky indeed and found a pretty new one with labels on it in a matching parts car :jono:<strike></strike>

I think this will be a fun exercise to see what it will take to get a somewhat unloved C124 roadworthy on a budget – stay tooned! I sure hope this thing isn’t a basket case when I get right underneath it with an inspection lamp so please keep your digits crossed for me!

Another c124 update of today's progress :D

I set off early to a parts yard I frequent pretty much every Saturday for w124 treasures and I knew they had a 220CE there that was very clean underneath.

The exhaust on my red c124 is totally shot so I needed to get a new one..... but trying to keep this one on a budget I didn't want to just splash out on a brand new whole system. BUT I was very lucky as the parts 220CE had a recent new genuine MB exhaust on it so I got the whole system taken off in the proper sections. Result! I will wire brush off some very light surface rust in some areas, VHT spray it all and mount with new hardware and seals to satisfy my 124 OCD.

The drivers seat had a tear on the bolster and although I can fully repair that - I decided to just take the much better matching drivers seat (with no torn bolster) from the parts 220CE.

Then once home I took in and spent 3+ hours steam cleaning the bejesus out of the engine bay and underbody of the red c124. I'm very pleased with the condition of the car and it is one of the cleanest c124s I've seen underneath. There is still some welding required but not even 20% of what my 320CE requires

A very happy Christmas to you all! I hope you all got plenty of NLA w124 parts from Santa and plan lots of spannering in the new year :banana1:

Its great being apart of the board and there will be many more updates here next year as I'm determined to finish off long running projects! I also look forward to following the threads of other like minded members.

Happy holidays! :)

So here are pics of the red c124 in all it’s.... err, glory

20181226_135140.jpg 20181226_135211.jpg 20181226_135205.jpg 20181226_151539.jpg

Some work needed but it’s not too bad! Interior removed for welding so I don't risk setting fire to old carpets.

What I doing for MOT is renewing all brake pipes, one fuel line, some brake work and full underbody inspection and rust repair to name a few. To that end it made more sense to drop the rear subframe out of the way and give full access to treat the surface rust and weld where required.

20181228_153844.jpg 20181228_171851.jpg 20181228_171900.jpg 20181228_171921.jpg

Overall this really isn’t bad at all – quite a solid car. 95% of the rust is only surface and has not holed or weakened the sheetmetal at all. I need to do the welding first then I will wire brush everything back and POR15 the whole lot followed by waxoyl. Really when you see the lack of factory protection to the underbody in most areas it’s lasted pretty well in our climate. Note that for much of the underbody there was only one thin coating of a primer / sealer type material. No rubberised coating or wax of any kind

It still has the original upgrade light alloy wheels but they are in dire need of refurbishment. Since I had a set of genuine w124 AMG 17’s spare at the moment I have sent them off instead for full professional refurbishment and they will go on this red C124 in the interim when it’s ready for MOT mid January all being well.

Nice work Joe. Always amazes me how productive you are.

Did it come with 15” or 16” alloys? I can’t tell from your photos.

Hi Trip – it came with mighty 15’s :agree:

I will keep them and restore them eventually for originality’s sake but it felt better putting that money into the refurb of the genuine AMG HWA 124 rims as shown below. (Before pictures!)

20181227_121442.jpg 20181227_121447.jpg 20181227_121453.jpg 20181227_121514.jpg 20181227_121525.jpg

Part number HWA 124 401 03 02. 7.5 X 17 H2 ET 42 (PS does anyone know what 124 model these wheels would have came on? I'm thinking possibly an E36)

They will be dipped, done with metallic silver, diamond cut edges and all clear powdercoated after. 3 tyres are as new and the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] will be renewed with a matching tyre. I’ll also need to clean up the OE alloy wheel bolts too as they look quite nasty right now.

PS: I will be putting the original 220ce axle back in with only a light wire brushing and paint for now. Sacrilege I know but I will restore a spare axle at a later date and swap it out at my leisure. So now I am only concerned with A: Making sure this car is solid & sound / roadworthy B: Protecting and preserving the underbody of the car.

And I don’t have as much time as I’d like to get all this done – going to be tight juggling other priorities. And my 500E is now outside in a carport so I want this C124 work done over a couple of weeks and (respectfully) get it out to heck and my 500E back into this garage.

They all look like that here Dave unless restored. Indeed IMO this one is very solid! I am soon going to be doing a full writeup on how to spot all common w124 + c124 rust areas. There will be epic photos in there trust me- primarily from parts cars that were too gone to save
That's insane. Would it be worth the effort to buy a rust-free car from USA and ship it over there? Or are there too many hassles with import / taxes to get it into Ireland? Still, if it would save you a few hundred hours of labor...

:wormhole:

:wormhole:

Unless it's a 124.036 it wouldn't be worth importing costs for me anyway.

Note also that even if it comes over rust free - it will still require waxing / undercaoting here to keep it that way. Once they are made solid and treated with modern materials they stay rust free for many years. For example my 300E-24 was restored around 15 years ago and the underbody is still totally rust free

The welding has been coming along on the red c124 ever since. I am using hot dip galvanised thick gauge sheetmetal and ensuring all welds are continuous and pinhole free by shinning a light through all welds at the end. These repairs will last the life of the car when treated both sides with modern materials.

I started on the worst area first which was the RH rear wheel well:

20181230_172710.jpg 20181230_172409.jpg 20181230_172653.jpg

Work is ongoing and the welding will take another couple of weeks before I can begin the re-painting and waxing of the underbody. When all is coated and finished you really won't be able to tell that these repair patches are in there except for the lack of the factory holes with rubber bungs (Which caused the rot in the first instance for many of these areas) MOT is booked for early Feb – may not make it in time but I’ll sure as heck try!

A very happy New Year to all of you!

I went after work this evening to see my refurbished AMG 124 wheels coming out of the powdercoat oven. I was really amazed at the job they did - they looked as brand new wheels inside and out. Arguably better than new since they are diamond cut rims with clear baked on powdercoat all over for durability. (Vs clear paint / laquer only which is what I think the factory finish was)

They will mount the tyres back on and I'll collect them tomorrow. Stay tooned for pics of them

I am also wanting to buy a good used E320 124 engine harness part number 1244405632 or 1244405332

If anyone has one available please PM me. (Possibly planning to drop the spare 320 m104 engine I have into my red c124 this summer after it has passed MOT etc)

The refurbished monoblocks :jono:
The edges are diamond cut it’s just hard to see in the dull daylight we have here today

Cost to fully refurbish as 4x was £320GBP which I think was a great price

Joe, Wheels look great. £320GBP seems like a good price to refinish all 4. I think I paid at least that ($400 USD) 10+ years ago to refinish my AMG Monoblocks. They guy did a great job on mine and they held up great. I think this is one of those expenses that, if done right like yours, always makes a car look great. Mark

Thanks for that, and yes it was a very good price and worth every penny! They can do a full refurb with single paint colour (No diamond cut) for £240 but I went for the OE style diamond cut lip on these particular wheels.

They put them in a striper tank overnight, wash, soda blast any residue left on – and to key them. Then a powdercoat base is baked on and in my case followed by a metallic layer before diamond cutting and finally a clear powdercoat layer baked on as a hard wearing finish (over the diamond cutting too). This includes inside the wheels of course so it is as a brand new rim. They take care of the tyre removal, re-fitting and balancing + include the new centre caps in the price.

At those rates it is not even worth trying to DIY it for the effort expended and the end result will not include inside the wheels etc!
