Magnesium fan finish

What kind of finish was applied to the magnesium fan from the factory? Is it some kind of paint or varnish? It looks greenish to me, I can scratch it out if I try really hard with something sharp. I'd like to restore it to the factory look, I don't know if I should bead blast it first and then clear coat or something else. Any ideas?

I had mine vapour blasted. This is gentle enough to fully remove all corrosion but wont sandblast the surface and leave it rough.

Then I acid etch primed it and 3x light dust coats of alloy wheel silver paint. It will last for many years now looking good. Did my 500E fan the same way nearly 5 years ago and it looks just the same as the day I did it!!

It was / is pitted with corrosion but wont corrode any further.
