Modern Paint Code for w124 500e

Hi Guys,

What do you guys think the best suited MB paint code is for a w124 500e? Do you guys think the newer metalics are a little too bling blingy?

Also, what are your opinions on two-tone vs monotone?
Also, do you guys like the bumper imact strip look or do you think a smooth sleek soap bar look bumper is more appealing?

Bone stock i'll choose classic scheme with garnett red / two tone .

Why ... the answer to this is obvious ... DB199 (blue-gray metallic) ! It's the best color on an E500E fer shure.

Your other questions are more based on personal opinion. Lots of folks here prefer a "monotone" look because it looks more modern. Personally I love the two-tone look, and I still see plenty of newer cars with two-tone color set-ups. Same with the impact strip question -- depends on who you talk to.

Generally speaking I prefer a car look like it did when it was new, rather than trying to "modernize" it into something it was not intended to be. And (in the case of the 500E) goes for "modernizing" it with the "facelifted" 1994 model year look too. I say leave it was it was shipped from the factory. If one prefers the look of a 94 (or a 92/93) then buy one ... don't try to morph one into the other.

You would be amazed how nice of a color spruce green is when looking new !

The pre face lift cars have to be two tone otherwise it looks awkward . The cool thing about pre face lift cars is that all colors look cool except 199 and 744 cuz these are too common.

For the 90-93 036 I wish I could have light blue two tone , it is amazing I never though that light blue may fit to any car but it fits so cool to 036 500E

The best color for 94-95 is 744 and all monotone even if it is not Limited I would make it all monotone.The second choice is 009 this color is really gorgeous.

The 90-93 cars should be completely as the factory built it. Black bumper impact, two tone body, big grille and stock trunk.

The only case I would make car monotone is 94-95 vehicle in 744 brilliant silver . Otherwise as Gerry pointed the best option is factory set up .

The face-lifted owners can flame me for this, but I like the 036 look without a face-lift a lot more (one of the reasons I went for a non face-lifted year). The face-lifted 036 do not look as aggressive and the smaller grill makes them look too sedated. The last set of pictures form the Moscow-Georgia road trip with two face-lifted 036's and one non face-lifted 036 reminded me again why I like the older look much more. If I saw a non face-lifted 036 in my rearview mirror, it wouldn't give me goosebumps as much...

Are you serious about the spruce green Gerry? Is that the color of your 500e?. About face lifting . . I took agree that the non face lift is more agressive. Only one thing, if you look at the grill from the side, there is a huge gap between the grill and the radiator core support. I think all e500/500E's look nicer, but I think a mix would look nice. Pre facelift and close the the grill gap, two tone but 94/95 trunk lid and tail lights, and depending on color, two tone or rmonotone. What do you guys think of the really really dark blue that almost looks black, its an '87 is paint code for 300e's. Haven't seen a 500e in that color.Not the dark blue that has too much purple in it.

Steve, I think you mean 904, Midnight Blue. It's a non-metallic paint. AFAICT, only one .036 was imported to USA that color, and it had a blue interior too. My 87 300D is Midnight Blue.

I have a midnight blue coupe, I think the color I am thinking about is darker. Where is the paint code listed on the car? So what do you guys think of that dark blue? By the way, what years did Mb do their non metalics without a clear coat? Seems mbs clear coat are weak.

My '87 560SL in 568 Signal Red is not clearcoated - my '93 500E Signal Red is clearcoated, so it is between there....

The paint code can be found on the EPC datacard from the VIN, or it's also on the metal tag next to the hood latch.

Thanks. I will check the tag next to the hood latch. I just hope my eyes weren't play tricks on me and it ends up being plain old black.
szvook, are you serious or being silly, the has to be a better way to get air flow that leaving gaps like reducing the width of the grill frame I guess I could just customize my grill to like that of the Lexus Darth Vador look, or the Chrysler 300. . . .hey that brings me to another subject, did Chrysler take the 500e cad files, tweak them and make the Chrysler 300 ?
