More NLA?

I was thinking the same, although I didn't do any looking. Hmm.

@LWB250, yes, many/most computer modules for the 124 are NLA, including the E-GAS for all 034/036.

Beckmann, who turned into Blue Link for a few years and then transitioned back to Beckmann, should be able to rebuild them. Note the E-GAS modules are likely NOT going to be repaired by replacing capacitors, like the LH modules. There are lots more surface-mount chips. More info in this thread, photos below.

For the Emerald Cabbie on Ben's Whirled, just get a used module off eBay for $300 (link). Looks like a nice car, I wonder what he wants for it?

For 400E/500E owners, a used .034 E-GAS module is the most affordable option. I have an extra NOS / NIB .034 module (also works in 036, I have one installed in my E500) for sale but it won't be cheap... more than a Beckmann repair, but not €4995 either, lol.

Just an FYI:

I ordered a remanufactured Bosch alternator from MB Laredo (010 154 06 02 80). After nine days, it had still not shipped. I inquired and they said it is out-of-stock and there is no indication when it will be back in stock. In the past, Laredo was always good about communications regarding out-of-stock parts (maybe that has been discontinued too). It looks like AutohausAZ still carries the Bosch reman (AL0762X) for $185 plus a $35 core--at least they billed my card so hopefully that means they do. It's not good news when Mercedes stops selling mission-oriented parts like this.

MB says permanent NLA

I have a feeling that Bosch and other remans of this alternator will be available for a long time to come.

If push comes to shove, a good alternator shop can rebuild it. I had this done for a 300SEL 6.3 alternator when I lived in Portland, and they re-wound it so that it put out higher amps than it did when stock.

Well . . .tried to order an 8 rib serpentine belt for the 1992 500E from Gainesville Mercedes today, and, you guessed it by the title of the thread, NLA.

For a belt!!!

Found a Contitech belt on Parts Geek. Hope it works.

Yep... 8-rib belt A0099978792 shows NLA at MBCC:

6-rib belt A0109977892 shows no results at MBCC, indicating it may be NLA soon. RevParts does not yet show Discontinued, it's $66 list, $50 discount.

:runexe:

The NLA issue will at some point put our cars to permanent rest, that's the sad fact either we like it or not. Well, that is the fact for any vehicle as things develops over time, but the problem is that it will happen not too long ahead in time. Mercedes-Benz and any other brand put 100% focus on electric powertrains, which is the hottest but short minded solution at the moment. However, this transition leads to a pretty steep downscaling on everything related to fossile fuel driven vehicles. So when seeing a part going NLA, I have no belief in any reproduction because it's not on their agenda, or they simply don't care! It is no pride, heritage and brand affinity left in the entire car business, it's all about the CO2 footprint and profit for the shareholders.
So enjoy your 036 while you can guys! :e500launch:

PS. In say twenty years you get a Pagani Huayra for nickels to put in the garden as a playroom for your grandchilds - and the kids cannot imagine how that thing ever could start & run on the road. :giggle::giggle:

Maybe this would be giving them too much credit but I'm hoping there are some old, wise men at Mercedes in charge of making the decisions to discontinue certain parts, taking into consideration whether those parts would either (a) be readily available on the aftermarket, or (b) would be the type of part that wouldn't functionally disable the vehicle. When we're down to trying to make other models' viscous fan clutches work on our cars or installing an electric fan system instead it doesn't bode well for us.

I think option A will cover our belt situation for a while.

According to Gates website, they make a belt.

Gates Micro-V® Belts | Gates Corporation

I've used various Gates products on other car brands such as Subaru & various GM products with no issues. I would no issue using belts or hoses from them on my 92 500E.
Yes, I was going to state this.

DO NOT BUY CONCITECH BELT PRODUCTS — Serpentine or V-belts. Their quality in the past 5-10 years has majorly slid downward.

Buy the correct size/rib Gates serpentine belt. They are still excellent quality and much better than CONtitech.
