This is not my auction.

IMO one of the best head units ever made. I have one for my 1995 E320 wagon.

Also there are several used CD700II units currently listed on ebay which is odd....get them while you can!

Holy crap. 5k for a head unit???
You saw @captruff say one of the best ever made, didn't you @a777fan?!?!

Jokes.

Prices are crazy everywhere. I just watched an '07 RS4 with 100k on the clock go for $30k. Which doesn't sound like much until I realize that same year, my Allroad 4.2 with 25k on the clock fresh off exec lease was $24k. The phrases "15year old Audi with 100k on the clock" and "thirty grand" don't go together in my mind, just like for you "five grand" and "head unit" don't go together. They just don't. Indeed. Fully agree.

And I have typically considered myself on the more... how shall I say... 'loose' end when it comes to my purse-strings (spendthrift i think is correct...). When its tough for me, I don't even know how the skinflints out there are snapping ANYTHING up atm.

$5k is nuts. These typically go for ±$1k USD. Sure, NOS is worth more, but not 400% more. Search for both current & completed auctions to get an idea on price, and read descriptions carefully. Note that many of these are Japan-spec FM radio bands which are useless in USA, if you want FM radio function. If there's no video of the unit playing a CD, the mech may be inoperable.

I've got one or two of the CD700 units that I may be selling, although they may have issues with the CD or eject mechanism, as MANY of them do. I have CD700 HU's in two of my cars, they are fabulous but lack blue teeth, USB, or any of that other newfangled stuff most people insist on. The analog knobs are wunderbar. I use them primarily as a preamp for iPod Classic auxiliary input.

At least the CD drive is an easy fix for any competent computer repair shop... beyond that in the Nak, well, good luck.

So @gsxr, if I've already done a tear out and update of a '92 system, does that make these now PnP? I still have plenty of old CDs around, even though these won't play MP3.

EDIT... or the "NakMeech" as we used to call them.

Dave, I may be interested. Jono gave me one he got off Ebay in the past and it would not function at all. We assumed just the cassette mechanism was broke. I'm trying to get over to his place to try one of another he has. It's all I lack for my installed system. Some months ago I'd seen 2 or 3 for $600.00 +

Does anyone know someone or a business that will refurbish classic 80’s car audio units - replace caps and power supplies?

Classic Nak CD-700 units are nice, but my choice for my widebody is a Mac MX-406

I use a place local to me in Sarasota, FL. Not sure I’d recommend them. It sort of depends upon how involved is the repair. If you’re local to them, PM me for details. Not sure I’d be interested in mailing anything to them. Otherwise, I’d probably use one of the eBay guys, like this one (Vintage Audio Components-----Repair Service-----Bench Check and Report | eBay)... or this one (REFURBISHED OLD SCHOOL MCINTOSH MX406 AUDIOPHILE CD WITH DC/DC AMERICAN TUNER!!! | eBay)

I’ll keep trolling my memory to see if anything else pops up. I’d also try to twist Becker’s arm into doing it, which might actually work.

But McIntosh has a service network, so check with them… McIntosh - Service Network: Locate an Authorized Service Agency

Sadly I highly doubt any new cd transports are available. They have been discontinued for many years for almost all CD players.
Back in the day, I had a TD1200 in one of my cars. By far, the best cassette I ever had.
I agree, by far the best automotive Head Unit ever made hands down.

Especially if you recorded your own Metal cassettes on a top of the line home deck via a killer turntable with a vacuum tube phono stage. 🤤

The CD700 is nice and fits in aesthetically but is not to die for per se at this [$5k] price.

Yet I’ve never heard a cassette play in your car???
Only Blueteeth. 👀👀👀👀👀👀
C'mon by and listen to the Black Crowes on tape! My fav song by them is "Thorn in My Pride." That song itself is period-appropriate as well (1992).

But, please, no insufferable audiophile snob remarks about vacuum tubes, esoteric jazz LPs, or titanium-doped-magnetic-media or anything like that. 😳😇
