i bought one on Ebay which showed up today and of course it is the wrong one. Must be for an earlier version or something.

Can someone tell me the part number or post up a photo of what it looks like. Dealer wants close to $100 i plan to get a used one off Ebay except the right one this time.
I didnt know MB made multiple versions last i recall from years back Alpine made these changers and any Alpine magazine worked from that era. they also made a 10 disc changer as well which i think was much earlier.

Yes, the 1992/1993 models used the early style "Becker" CD changer (which had sort of rounded edges) and the 1994 models (with the updated 1492 radio) used a smaller, sharper-edged CD changer. It looks like you have the later model in your photos above. The later CD changer cannot connect to the early radio, and vice versa.

Quite often the CD changers no longer even work, and they are very expensive to fix (or to acquire a used one). It's honestly MUCH better, if you have the later 1492 radio, just to get an iPod cable that plugs into the back of the head unit at the CD changer connector and connects to your iPod. If you have the earlier 1432 radio used on the 1992 and 1993 cars (the two-piece unit), you really have to send the unit into Becker and they can install a 1/4" plug to use as an input for your iPod or other music source. I'm not aware of a CD changer replacement cable for iPods on the earlier radios. CD changers are so limiting given they only hold 6 discs. That's not a lot of tuneage.

Your changer was not one of the exact models from the 1994 and 1994 W124 cars. That model CD changer is pictured below. Perhaps your changer was used as a late 1990s model, in the W210 or W202 or something. I am sure it will be compatible with the later BE 1492 head unit as used in the 1994 E500s, though.

Cheers,
Gerry

This is the early style (1992-1993) Becker CD changer for the BE 1432 two-piece stereo systems

Here's the later style CD changer for the BE 1492 (1994 model year) head units. My wife's 1995 E320 wagon has one installed.

Hi,
If you have the Becker 1492 head unit, you can also get the Alpine CHA-S634 CD changer.
I have it in my car and it works perfectly. Furthermore it reads MP3 CD

Alexis brings up a very good point that I forgot to mention. This Alpine changer he mentions is plug-compatible with the later (1994 model year) BE 1492 head units. There are also foreign-made, aftermarket units you can buy via eBay (or at least, you used to be able to get them) for around $150 that are plug and play. I bought one once about 7-8 years ago with intent to install it in my E500, but decided to opt for the iPod mod as it is more versatile and didn't really require any installation, so ended up selling it new in box some years later.

Cheers,
Gerry

i give up and need to now visit the dealer the 3rd one i bought on ebay showed up and that doesnt fit as well, something just isnt right here with these magazines i mean how many freaking versions can there be. I need my local dealer to check the part number on my changer, so frustrated over this.

Good question. I am not sure if there are multiple versions of the 6-disc changer, with different magazines... anyone else know for sure?

Before throwing in the towel, fredtga has a MY92-93 CD changer for sale from a dismantled 500E.

Also, check the MB EPC (electronic parts catalog) to verify the proper part numbers based on your car's VIN. It will save much gnashing of teeth...and cash.

The CD changer was sold as a dealer-installed accessory. I am unable to find the CD changer part number, or cartridge part number, in the EPC under the 124.036 chassis in USA.

Under the European 124.036, SA 57155 shows CD changer options, but is not clear on what exactly they are. I had to do some checking on W140 and R129 chassis to get additional p/n's:

B6-782-2538 appears to be a Becker 10-disc changer, but I can't find a cartridge part number
B6-782-3001 appears to be an Alpine ??-disc changer (002-820-34-89), but I can't find a cartridge part number

Cartridge B6-782-3006 is for changer 002-820-42-89
Cartridge B6-782-2710 is for changer B6-782-2712 (Alpine)
Cartridge 002-820-62-89 is for changer 002-820-59-89 (may also fit 002-820-58-89, not sure about 002-820-42-89)

Note that the B6- numbers in the EPC may appear as a 10-digit number on the item itself, making identification and cross-reference challenging...

:wormhole:

hi guys i just crawled into my trunk to snap this photo, there is no branded logo on the back of my changer just the following tag with a part number. can anyone cross reference this as to what magazine i need? driving me nuts this silly nuance

the part number is 002 820 3289

the model number is MX 3192

MADE IN JAPAN

Strange... the EPC shows 002-820-32-89 as an amplifier, not a CD changer. Could be a typo in the EPC.

The photo isn't appearing, btw, if you attached one. I found a couple of MX3192 changers on eBay but not much more info.

:(

Attempt #4 is. Called Becker NA and they said my changer is an Alpine version but Alpine made 4 versions from 91 on

they said they had a magazine for $25 so i ordered it. I should see it by Friday and il update this thread it it works this time around

Pissed is an understatement right now. Ups shows up and Becker did indeed send me the correct magazine finally. It is way different than ones i ever owned in the 90s

i plug it in the cd goes in and nothing plays, no error codes but after a few seconds the cd will stop spinning and seem to eject itself back into the magazine

any idea whats wrong? I will call Becker again asking about a repair. I was surprised no error messages came up on the radio

$100 spent now on magazines and still no cd tunes

Your HU isn't recognizing the CD player/changer. Unplug and plug the power supply to the HU or disconnect and reconnect the battery's negative terminal (whichever is convenient.) This will re-initialize or reset the HU and recognize the CD player/changer.

It worked on my SL and E320. I hope it work for you as well.

i had my battery disconnected for a few days as i had to remove my steering wheel to check the backside. when i plugged in earlier the radio said CODE i entered it and tried that.

the head unit seems to recognize because it shows CD1 and when i removed the CD from the magazine it showed 0

it is something stupid which i hope to get an answer from Becker
