Holy shite, I’m glad I bought a second set of Hella headlamps from speed autoteile for $1K back in the day.

FYI I just sold one new lens to a fellow E500 driver for around 380euros. For my perception a fair price is up to 500 per lens. But that's everyone's individual matter...

I scored a set of 500E lenzes from a fellow MB club member here in Morepay 10+ years ago for €200, which was a pretty normal price at the time.

Later on I got a set of NOS/NIB regular W124 headligths, but with yellow fogs, that's rare stuff IMO.

When I still had my 1987 300E, I also had the yellow fogs but never looked into if that was original OEM or not.

FYI about "Selective Yellow" headlamps, post #13:

It won't be too long before we see a €10,000 / $10,000 asking price for a new set of OE MB E500E headlamps, in original boxes. And the NOS tunk badges for €5,000. Because, greed.

We're already at €5,000 asking price for headlights, and $500+ prices for tunk badges. And we can't forget @Jlaa and his E500E battery box sheet metal -- he won't even name a price for it, as it is the .036 equivalent to the Mona Lisa. Several members are counting on their NOS parts hoards to fund their retirement.

Gerry,

On the subject of 500E trunk badges- do you believe the impending saturation of re pop trunk badges will negatively affect the value of said items?

Eg I have a new sealed genuine 500E trunk badge. Should I offer it for 5k now before the other option comes online and the ass falls out of the 500E badge monopoly?

I believe that the coming flood of repop badges won't affect the market one whit for real, NOS badges. In fact, the NOS stuff will only get more valuable in future years (unless MB somehow does another production run). The repops (whether the eBay repops or the Ntrepid repops) will always be different than and distinguishable from the real NOS badges. And many buyers will only and ever want the real badges.

My badges really didn't affect the market for the NOS stuff, when I was creating them and selling them for $40-50 each.

I'm preparing another production run of 3-4 of these badges, which are made from "real" MB 300E badges with a "5" replacing the "3" on them. This is purely designed as an exercise to help people out who want pretty much the equivalent of a factory badge, but at 10-15% of the price that people seem to be charging for NOS badges. Sort of a "help a brotha' out" kind of thing.

One question for you, though, @JC220. If and when you ever sell your NOS OE MB 500E tunk badge, will you have to report the significant income you will be receiving to HMRC / Inland Revenue? It appears that there is a 20% capital gains tax on sale of personal goods in the UK (assuming that Northern Ireland hews to the HMRC). It could be a substantial tax hit for you.

I got mine from mercedes classic 3 years ago for list price. Soon they will see the light of day after sitting in boxes and then applied to a car in refurb mode...

If this comes to fruition, showing up to a car meet wearing expensive forged wheels will mean nothing compared to having the blinging lamps.
:plusone: It is not too difficult to envision a day when three-piece AMG wheels or similar availability is pedestrian in comparison to NOS/500E tunk badges and/or Yurro headlamps.

I just hope the gray switches don't go the same route as the Lens and Badges...

The chicks will have to start looking for BMW's or, Audi's next......o_O

Whats next on the NLA list, Keys with chips? Oh never mind, that's the SL's and ML's

I'm starting to think they want us all to buy new models....

When it comes time to sell my car, I'll list it as:

FS: Euro Headlights and 500E Badge (car attached but can be easily discarded by new owner)
Fortunately, the gray switches were stock equipment on later cars, so they are relatively easy to find in the wrecking yards. I try to grab them when I can, and always seem to sell out of them immediately when I offer sets for sale. (cc: @liviu165)

They are still available from MB for around $7 each (new), and you can be very sure that I have a supply of new ones on hand ... someday I'll be able to call them "NOS" (new old stock) after they go NLA.

Geez, @Melville, I just spit out a mouthful of coffee.
