The odometer recently stopped working on the 500E.
My inital search of the topic reveals this (older) post:

in which Gerry lists a source for odometer gears and instructions on how to repair them.
Then it reveals this (later) post:

in which Dave reccomends rebuilders and no mention of diy repair.
Are two of my heros in disagreement on this?
It seems that odometergears.com is still around and supplying the required gears. Has rebuilding fallen out of favor?
I have had speedos and tachs rebuilt at both North Hollywood and Palo Alto rebuilders in the past with great results, but would not mind repairing at home if others have had good results.
Any recent feedback out there that I have missed?
