Hello everybody.
I want to show you my new toy. It's a 91 500E. It was originally registered in Barcelona.
It has some extra features as on-board computer and sunroof.
Last owner was a mechanic and took care of engine but couldn't afford the rest of restoration expense. After couple of years laying in backyard he decided to sell it.
The interior is quite well and needs just a good clean. But exterior paint needs urgent respray.

Some pictures will explain better than words:

This weekend I have started removing all added gadgets former owners had installed: 2 phones (front and back), kenwood headunit with cd changer in glovebox and gemini alarm.
This is all the rubbish I took out:

And this is how it looks now:

I have a doubt I'm sure you can easily solve...

Is the wood trim in our cars burlwood? Is it named wurzelholz in german?

I'm looking to upgrade my steering wheel and gear selector and want to be sure the wood will match.

Thanks

Can this one work in a 91 model?
Yes, it will work in a 1991 model, but make sure it's the correct Sportline wheel with smaller diameter (390mm vs 400mm), assuming you'd like to retain the "correct" size wheel...

:star:

Looks 400mm from a 140 ? should still fit though as Dave says .

2phast should be able to confirm too.

Hi everyone,
The 500E is still at the paintshop...:x
As Goliat explains in his post seems spanish people only move on when you get really angry. I hope next weekend I have it back home.
Meanwhile I have been collecting parts in eBay Germany but there's one thing I would need your expert advice.
Former owner warned me that he changed one of the catalytic converters. I asked Mercedes the price for the other and they only sell all the first part of the exhaust (including 2 converters) for almost 1600€+21% taxes!!!
I did then some research and found Magnaflow direct fit converters for 1/3 of oem price. My question is: Can the Magnaflow be used in european cars? I mean do they pass MOT?

Since I can't show you pictures of the Mercedes yet I take the opportunity to show you his relative I already own: Audi RS2.
As you all know they were both built at the same Porsche factory.

In Ibiza no one moves. If you get angry they just do less and start with something else. Then the local police will visit, you cannot harass Ibicencos.

What a beauty....
Remeber seeing it in showroom in 1993..... shocking.

Hello carboRS2 - and welcome to the forum! :thumbsup2:

It is great to see more "urops" joining in, and it is not often we get '91-models - the very first build year. Your restoration looks familiar to me, I've also taken out 20-30 Kg of wires & various electronics in my Limited. (...it even came with 4 remote controllers - so who were going to do the driving..??)

That steering wheel will be fine along with a burlwood shift knob. I guess you have seen them on Ebay.de
http://www.ebay.de/sch/m.html?_odkw...zelholz&_nkw=schaltknauf,+wurzelholz&_sacat=0
FYI the seller hpw.cardesign is the same shop as Eris Car Design:
http://www.eris-car.com/shop/
And Schätz Tuning do also have nice shict knobs:

Good luck with the restoration!

Cheers, Arnt

Finally, after 6 weeks, I have the car back in my garage.
Now it's time to start getting my hands dirty.
First thing I've done this weekend is remove the wheels. And started with brake rotors and calipers.
I want to restore calipers and wheels. And put new rotors and pads.

About rotors. I read that Ate is very good choice.
I've been searching in online parts store here in Spain and can't find the right rears.
When I search for w124 500E it shows 300mm rear
If I search for R129 SL500 then I get the right 278mm but not vented. And it should be vented, right?
