Bill, the alignment specs for the 124.036 are unique to that model, although the 3.4 AMG specs might be fairly close. Click the link below to the factory specs in PDF, see section C for front specs.

Rear specs appear to be the same for all 124, the camber "spec" is just a check based on ride height, and requires the dealer tool to measure height. If you have an aftermarket adjustable rear camber kit, that puts a slight wrench in things but the important item is the toe spec front & rear. If the alignment wasn't done at the dealer, you'll need to ask if they used a spreader bar setting front toe... but that still shouldn't cause a pull to one side.

Finally put some elbow grease into the 500E and gave it a proper clean, in and out! Thorough rinse, snow foam, wash with two buckets and a quick polish. I'd like to give the bodywork a proper detail and wet sand but that will have to wait for a professional.

Weather wasn't great by the time I was done but here are a few photos - orange indis will be refitted soon.

And back in the garage.

Heading off to the Middle East again so the car will be connected to the trickle charger and forgotten about for months on end! I did consider selling it as these cars don't like sitting but I really can't think what i'd replace it with when I got back to the UK eventually. I'l see how things go and consider it down the line. Lots of work has gone into this car since I bought it and its finally shaping up really nicely. It probably needs a grand or two thrown at it to get everything done right and a few expensive jobs sorted (engine mounts, all calipers rebuilt etc) but it's work which isn't really needed right away.

For the Caliper rebuilds try Bigg Red. I had them do the calipers on my E36 build. (It has 500E brakes too) and they left them as brand new again. I chose an anodised finish like OE. Get a price first then ship them off. Takes about 2 weeks to get them back. (Quicker if you choose a painted finish) I also fitted Hel Stainless carbon brake lines to the E36. I'll be getting a set of those for the 500E soon.

Cheers pal. Yes know about them but they're not the cheapest, certainly do appear to be one of the best in the business though. I reckon a big brake kit would suit this car well as even the silver arrow brakes probably wouldn't take a hammering.

I've got the stainless steel hoses fitted- went for good Ridge in the end.

Time for another update on my 500E. I had primarily been concentrating on the mechanical side of things and neglecting the cosmetics ever since I bought the car. I attended the MB concours car show last month so had a pull my finger out and get a few cosmetics sorted:

- Alloy wheels refurbished in Audi Daytona Grey - they're so shiny they look wet in the sunlight, amazing.
- Brake calipers removed, cleaned and professionally painted
- Front grill, windscreen wipers and headlight wipers painted satin black
- Rocker covers removed, repainted in silver and stickers which have been sitting on the shelf forever fitted
- Orange indicators fitted
- Re dyed the steering wheel

Here are some recent photos of how the car stands. Can anyone tell me whether the modules are the correct ones for my car?

Very happy with how the car has turned out - keen to get the steering box fitted now so the driveability of the car is restored. I have toyed with getting a big brake kit, redoing all the interior etc but I may just buy a c63 and keep this car original.

Like everyone else on the forum there is still tonnes to do on this car but as I will be going abroad soon it will be parked away for now.

FYI- Here is a pic of my modules. All yours match except the LH module part number.

I know mine is the early LH WOT enriched Euro version. Not sure what the difference is on yours- I'm sure Dave knows though

Hey all, had the steering box replaced fluid flushed and filter replaced, now the car drives lovely. I also had the brake bled at the same time so the car stops properly. Very happy. Alignment is not 100% but need to get a professional to look at that, the shop I used wasn't so good so i'm pretty disappointed in that.

Here are some during photos and photos of the underside of my car. You can see in the earlier photos the leak is quite bad. I am going to refurbish my old steering box and offer it for sale incase another member needs one.

My car needs a really good deep clean and underseal underneath (but I think this has already been done to some extent) however this is as it stands, no cleaning etc.

In terms of things that I spotted:

- One of the rear shocks has very light misting but suspension is going to all get replaced next year
- SLS removed, pipes crimped (I knew this obviously post initial inspection when buying)
- Spare tyre housing has a dent so will need to be sorted professionally
- Central resonator has slight surface rust but hoping to replace the entire exhaust at some point

Can anyone spot anything odd underneath or does it all look OK?

It’s had a recent pair of front later style LCA’s up front. Handy if you are thinking of big brake upgrades in the future.

The propshaft Flex Discs (guibos) look like they need replacement sooner than later. Any signs of cracking on those is possible immanent failure. In my E36 build I bought Lemforder items they were identical to MB OE (SKF Items) so those or MB are best for sure. I'll also be renewing both guibos on my 500E soon along with a new centre support bearing assembly. These cars are sore on the drivetrain with that lusty V8

No problem, the centre support are items numbered 131 & 128

There is a bearing (131)suspended in a rubber housing (128). The rubber housing tends to crack & fall apart with age leaving the bearing to flop about unsupported. Best to renew the assembly.

More often than not it's neglected because it's out of sight behind a heat shield on the exhaust about mid way down the car's centre Propshaft.
