I assume those wheels are 8 1/4 x 17's? I have the same on my E500. Compared with my car (certainly on the rear, I can't really tell from your picture about the fronts) they appear to sit further "out" in the wheelarch. Are you using spacers, and if so, what size?
Thanks.
Hi, it's been two years late but I am finally here to address your questions.
They're the stock W124 E500 LIMITED EVO II wheels, which are 17x8.25" on 245/45/R17.
Pushed out on 15mm spacers front, 20mm spacers rear. DR Series Trak Spacers from H&R in Black, once again 15mm front and 20mm rear.
In addition to restoring cars using OEM parts and processes, I also modify and tune cars for performance, but have taken a careful approach to modify it while respecting the original W124.036 OEM design philosophy, so instead of converting to stud bolts + lug nuts, I ordered TUV-approved German made lug bolts from RAD Germany in the sizes:
Front: RAD Lug Bolt 12mmx1.5, 55mm Shank, R12 Ball Seat, 17mm Hex, Dacromet Coated
Rear: RAD Lug Bolt 12mmx1.5, 60mm Shank, R12 Ball Seat, 17mm Hex, Dacromet Coated
This way, the end result, as you see in my photos, is an understated OEM+ look that pushes the stock EVO II wheels outwards just enough to look right, filling out the fenders better without poking outside of the fenders in an understated way.
I also have BNIB 19" NEEZ wheels in that 5-spoke style but after doing spacers, I can't get myself to take them out of the box and mount/balance them, so more than happy with the current setup.
With a proper alignment (-1.9° camber in front), these 17" wheels handle and turn better than you would expect from a car like this.
